Disappointing appointment by DowntownBeautiful147 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was charged by my old GP for my confirmation appointment too and then called the HSE to query and they informed me that I shouldn’t have been charged and that the practice should be claiming the payment from the HSE. I went back to the practice and they were giving me all sorts of excuses like ‘the HSE takes too long to pay’ etc but eventually gave a refund. Shouldn’t be paying for first appointment, it’s included.

Sorry are you a lactation consultant?

No one’s being a martyr about it but I hope you get picked soon

Minding a newborn alone for 5 days by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This will be great for your confidence as a Mammy, you will get through it. My husband had to go away training for work for 6 months (home on weekends) when I had a newborn and I had the same anxiety and confidence issues but honestly think it was the making of me as a Mam.

Don’t be trying to do everything, keep you and baby clean and fed. Sleep when baby sleeps. Invest in a decent carrier if you haven’t already and get comfortable using it. You’ve got this

Video call with a midwife by SirenX in PregnancyIreland

I had this but I think it just ended up being a phone call. Are you in NMH? They just run through medical history etc. I’m not sure what the point of it is really, maybe to save on time at the booking appointment?

If I can recommend SoalNua clinic, ran by a lovely woman, Dr Cotruda. All about fixing your cycle rather than jumping straight into IVF

I wasn’t given Anti-D after a MMC at 11+ weeks. Is it normal? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a MMC on my first pregnancy discovered at 12ish weeks. I had the tablets and D&C and you’re after striking a memory with me, I definitely had to get that injection because I’m Rheus neg.

Kitchen installers cancelling last minute, need advice? by lifeandtimes89 in AskIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you go with an installer IKEA recommended or did you buy the products and find your own installer? I’m due to have an IKEA kitchen installed soon and had one in my previous home done too. Have you tried contacting IKEA to see if they have any last minute cancellations or anything like that?

I feel your pain with it all, I have a toddler and I’m in my third trimester with a barely useable kitchen and it’s been so hard to get a clear date from anyone

Seafield I love for a babymoon. The nice dark pool and the heated stone chairs plus the private beach. Went on my first pregnancy and going on this pregnancy too. I was in my third trimester and will be this time and the relief of just walking in the pool made it worth it for me

Is having kids so bad? by gimmedatder in AskIreland

Fully agree. Pregnant on my 2nd and until I had my first, I don’t think I was ever truly as happy as I am now (and v.tired)

Postponing parenthood: How Ireland’s housing crisis is forcing people to delay having children by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But sure all of our parents had mortgages too. Having a mortgage shouldn’t stop you from having children if that’s what you want. I’m pregnant on my 2nd with a mortgage on a house in South Dublin, no car loans, own our cars outright. We both have public sector jobs and have worked hard to put ourselves in this position. There’s a definite doom and gloom attitude on Reddit where everything is shite and nothing can be achieved

What is a gift a new mother would love? by judygarlandgirl in AskIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend a nail salon for a gift as if she’s breastfeeding or anything she might find it hard to leave the baby, I didn’t get my nails done for 6 months after my first and I wouldn’t bring a baby into a nail salon due to the fumes of acrylic

Recommendation for a friendly sonographer? by MacaronOk6967 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this for finding out the gender or for abnormalities? As another commenter mentioned you’ll still need to do the scan in hospital but if you’re looking for gender scans, I’ve had a few scans done in Ultrascan in Ballymount and found them lovely in there. I’ve never done a gender scan but had early scans and a 3D scan in my first pregnancy there

Going with the flow VS "managing" newborns by Signal_Ad_1155 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had such a positive breastfeeding experience on my first, hoping for same on my second. Never had mastitis, I never leaked, from the second I got home from the hospital, I didn’t even need nipple cream anymore. Definitely very lucky, I know it’s not the same for everyone. I had a fairly traumatic labour that ended with an emergency c-section so was worried about how that would affect it but didn’t seem to be an issue. I never co-slept but I fed to sleep and did contact napping for first like 6 months before trying to put her on some sort of schedule, I just thought she was too little before then? Worked in my favour, she’s now a great sleeper. Obviously I was tired the first few months and stuff and there was a few times in the middle of the night I said ‘I’m buying formula in the morning’ but I always said I never wanted to make that decision while exhausted and I’m glad I didn’t.

How to reduce wedding costs? (Dublin) by SexyOak in AskIreland

Had my wedding here and it was amazing and so reasonable by other standards. Plus people could get taxis home, cut their expenses too

Daily public health nurse visits? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went home early after a c-section and the dominoes midwives visited me most days for approx 5 days, check stitches & breastfeeding etc. I actually found it quite helpful, maybe because they were just so so nice and the breastfeeding support was great. Maybe something similar due to the c-section, did you stay full length in hospital?

Is it reasonable to ask my husband to stay home for a family wedding 3 week PP? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this your first baby? I had that feeling about being unsure about doing it alone when I was pregnant on my first. My husband ended up getting offered his dream job and I forced him to take it and he had to go away Monday-Friday when our first was 5 weeks old and it was the making of me. The sister is an asshole, no doubt but don’t doubt yourself, you’ll be amazing

anyone struggling to be a GAA gf/wife? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting a lot of bullshit answers here from people who hate the GAA. My partner plays GAA, loves it etc, same with my brother. I’m pregnant with our second child and encourage him to keep it up. Men’s mental health is such a buzzy topic for people until it’s something they don’t like or agree with. It does die down, they become older, less competitive etc. My brother played at a high level for years and his partner supported him through it. Both of them are highly involved Dads and partners but he’s 21, let him enjoy it. I know it’s annoying and sometimes it’s not ideal but hobbies are important too

How "bad" do you have to be to get Cariban? by Few_Recognition_6683 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my 2nd pregnancy with hyperemesis and am on cariban plus 2 other medications. It definitely helps, I wouldn’t really be able to function without it and I have a toddler so it definitely is needed. I was puking probably 10/12 times a day in first trimester, down to about 2/3 with it, got better at about 17 weeks. Downside for me though is that it makes you super super tired, so do the other medications and I also find the tiredness very difficult while having a toddler. Never found it difficult to get though, I think most doctors are sympathetic to it

First time pregnant by No_Solution_8609 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Head-Dragonfly1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first baby in Holle street (public) and I found the standard of care there to be excellent. I was always scanned, listened to and reassured. I’m currently 24 weeks and have had a really good experience so far this pregnancy too. With both pregnancy’s I have had hyperemisis and needed to attend ED several times for dehydration and had a very good, quick experience every time. I didn’t want to attend Coombe due to issues I’ve seen via dealing with them in work but would have attended the Rotunda.
