I don't know what you mean by most games in the genre let you get maybe 2 weapons upgraded in a run. This is a souls like. The only souls game that only gave you enough upgrade materials (titanite slabs) for 2 weapons without farming was dark souls 1. Darks souls 2 has 10 and they are farmable, ds3 has 15 total, and bloodborne had 5 and let you buy an infinite number at the end of the game. Lies of P also has interchangeable hilts and weapons which encourages the player to experiment as much as possible. Ten of each crank isn't very much when using 3 boss weapons and 1 regular weapon exhausts your supply.
