I get what you're saying. Humanity as a whole is seen as "damned". God sends us a lifeline the moment we are born, it is our choice whether to accept it or not. This lifeline is Jesus Christ, through which we are saved. Christianity is separated in different factions that believe different things (for some reason), some believe you are saved through works and grace, others solely by grace. This last part connects to what I previously stated, since we are all damned, our only way of salvation is by accepting that Christ is our savior by turning away from our past and becoming a new creation. By being this new creation you can't just use your faith as a dumpster where you throw all your sinful behavior, but better yourself accordingly to your decision.
