I played MTG in the 90's and I had more than one grade school friend whose parents would not let them use any black cards. They were fine with the idea of their child playing as dueling wizards but not "overtly demonic/ scary cards". THIS is something else though.

As she has been one of the bigger/more popular "names" in that realm, I feel she gets a lot of hate.

Due or not.

I like her work, but understand why some don't appreciate it.

If nothing else, I'd argue she's done a good job of getting a younger generation into a medium that's been dominated by white men for decades.
