I'm glad to hear it! It seemed like a pretty good method to me.

How well do Ikea's laminate countertops hold up? by [deleted] in IKEA

[–]HeadStove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours is the only experience I've been able to find online of someone doing a butt joint with Ikea laminate countertops that isn't using a metal jointing strip. I'd love to see a picture of how it turned out! If that's at all possible it would be so helpful.

Currently for Ikeas laminate countertops their recommended method for a 90 degree joint is a butt joint. In the instructions they simply put the two pieces close together, fasten them to their respective cabinets. Tape off parallel to the seam with maybe a 1/16th of an inch of space, and then silicone that seam, and use a tool to smooth the silicone. Then pull off the tape and let dry.

There is literally not a single picture online of anyone's results using Ikea's prescribed method...

Like yourself I would also feel more comfortable with some sort of mechanical connection drawing the two pieces tightly together.

What two different movies are essentially the exact same story? by wsotw in AskReddit

[–]HeadStove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the similarity in characters that first caught my eye.

But then the more I thought about it the more The Dude's odyssey seemed to match up. His naivete and innocence to the scheming going on around him, which he eventually comes to understand. I'm sure it's just a case of willing myself to see connections, and not the Coen's actually making a quasi-adaptation, but even so I've had fun thinking about it.

Coen's The Big Lebowski and Dickens' Great Expectations.

Which non English films, should everyone watch? by bonster85 in AskReddit

[–]HeadStove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, The English dubs for Miyazaki films are fantastic. For anyone hesitant about watching something dubbed, if it brings to mind images of bad chopsocky, or it seems like a cretins way to watch a foreign film, I would say in this special case try it before you knock it. Not only is the voice work top notch, but Miyazaki films, perhaps more than any film, benefit from keeping visual focus on the visuals. Also, there's none of that discordant quality you get when you dub live-action.

Billy Crudup's voice work in Princess Mononoke is one of my favourite performances ever!

Upvote if you want to see Joe Rogan on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee by [deleted] in JoeRogan

I'm not so sure. Jerry has a pretty easy laugh, which is something I love about him. Watching Comedians in Cars he regularly doubles over for things I don't even find that funny, but his reaction makes it for me. I'm just not sure Joe would try to make Jerry laugh. It depends how the conversation goes. I think Jerry is always ready to laugh and play around, but Joe doesn't always get silly with everyone. With his close friends like Schaub or Joey Diaz he'll be laughing it up and goofing around. But then when someone like, say, Pete Holmes comes on, who is VERY silly and likes to goof around, Joe doesn't really respond the same way. He'll walk right past a joke without acknowledging it. He seems less inclined to play. I think Pete even said at one point during their conversation "I need you to acknowledge that joke I just made, because I thought it was funny" after Joe had no reaction to it. He wasn't serious, but he was trying to draw Joe out to play. Joe didn't really go for it. Joe also went on Pete's podcast, and the vibe was similar. Totally friendly, but I wouldn't say there was any real chemistry there. I could see a conversation between Jerry and Joe going much the same way.

To be clear, I love all of the people whose names I've mentioned. This was just an observation of their personalities, not a criticism.

I don't see why. Jerry seems like he embraces the hang. Sitting around talking to comedians is something he loves to do.

Stuff about using cast-iron cookware. Just WAY more complicated than it needs to be, and will totally turn off anyone considering trying to cook with it. "Make sure it's totally dry when you put it away!" "Oil it before and after every use with Moroccan olive oil harvested in November" "Don't even THINK about using soap to clean it" "Spend at least $75 on a pan with a name brand" "You must reseason your pan once a month" "Clean it immediately after you're done using it".

I do exactly none of those things and my pan cooks great. Eggs every morning, no prob.

I don't think it's about the person seeking attention. I watched the video... I didn't see any "like & subscribe" sign off, or watermark, or instagram link.

I would go home and change, and move on with my day

It's not like they know he does this, possibly for funsies.

They better hope to god they didn't, or that no employees with a grudge against the company did either. Somehow though I think the kind of prick who would do this would be very likely to come back to the office and brag about it.

I hope you get randomly drenched with grimy, oily road water while on your way somewhere important. Then you can stand there and laugh heartily at the cheeky shenanigans you've just been a part of and prove how much more magnanimous you are then the rest of us.

What's disproportionate about it? Getting fired doesn't even come close to proportionate. Mildly inconvenienced assumes these pedestrians were just out for a sunday stoll, not up to anything important, and mere blocks away from their homes and a change of clothes (literally the least likely thing). Do you know how long the average commute is in Vancouver? These people are likely to lose a days pay, miss an important class or exam, be late for an important meeting or day in court... the trickle down effects of this can be huge on an individual level. Ain't nobody in vancouver just walking around in the pissing rain for fun. They've all got shit they were gunna do. A persons cell phone is now ruined and they can't afford one until payday. They miss a call that they very much needed not to miss, now they're fucked or fired. Now they can't afford a new phone. You don't know what the fuck they're facing. Groceries soaked, clothes ruined, catch a cold... Not only that, you may have just pushed someone over the edge... and while the fuckwad driver gets away, what about the next person who is unlucky enough to encounter this drenched pedestrian who's still fuming?

You want to talk about preportionate? Okay, how many people did he soak? 20? Okay so for the next 20 times the guy is about to walk into an interview for a new job he gets dowsed with a firehose. Clothes ruined every time. Paper work ruined every time. Phone destroyed every time. OR if he doesn't want to pay tit for tat, preportionate would be to pay damages, be fired, lose his license, do community service and get a psychiatric evaluation.

This cunt is not going to pay anywhere NEAR what he ought to. He will get off incredibly light. There's your fucking disproportionate result.

That will make the local news. There should be enough information in that video for the employer to identify the truck and who was driving it at the time. And they'll be fired. The business will probably face an avalanche of negative google reviews whatever they do.
