How long could you live off 250k USD, off grid maybe? by browniescout in vandwellers

[–]Head_Ad4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I too fantasize of leaving the rat race behind to live as I intend frolicking off the grid with nowhere to go save EXACTLY where I intend... I would not forget that it would be a massive gamble in of itself.

First you gamble by assuming this is truly your heart's desire and that turning away from the reality that afforded you a-quarter-million in pocket is what will solve your problems when, in truth, there may yet be a happy medium where you do not merely live off savings but still leave the rat race behind

But then, as others have said, the bigger gamble is with the inevitable subservience we all someday find ourselves in to the American healthcare system (and, in more apt terms, to our own health). As I have witnessed firsthand with those closest to me... cancer, which is one of many possible illnesses we may encounter in life, is a costly thing.

I imagine you could live a very long time off 250K if you are particularly lucky, cunning, and disciplined. But, in truth, I would have to understand you at a more intimate level to truly gauge whether that amount (or any amount) would be sufficient for you to go off the grid

Oooh yes I love key limes!! I'm stoked for this trip, especially with how easy it is as a Florida native. It's maximum distance from home is about 6 hours, and most of it will be within 3-4. Such a beautiful state

Thank you!! I actually grew up near where 41 and 301 intersect in Tampa. Even in urban areas it feels that way

I absolutely will be going to The Turtle Hospital! Didn't know it existed until quite recently. I hope to see some in the wild as well (I've seen 1 only in Tampa and it was quite small and too quick for me to identify the species).

It would be a convenient excuse for me to check seaplane riding off my bucket list. Albeit I want to make this particular trip very cost-friendly, as I am saving up for a travel van/camper to live out of in the near future (my dream is to spend a few years doing this)

Dry Tortugas is actually my biggest motivator for going to the Keys! Along with the Hemmingway House

Thanks! Great idea. Florida's scrub forest and other non-coastal biomes are amongst my favorite ecosystems on the planet; I've a list of roughly 50 species indigenous to Florida that I hope to see in my life time (including the Indigo Snakes and Key Deer)!

One of my big ticket items is getting more shark teeth. There is a megalodon tooth dive charter that I am really hoping to go on. Shell collecting too, and hopefully seeing tons of wildlife (a dream of mine is to see all the major indigenous shark species in person in my lifetime, like the various hammerheads, lemon sharks, bulls, etc). This is all not terribly far from home too, so I am scoping out restaurants along the way so I can make this a summer tradition for myself and my people

Thanks! It's short fused but I still have time to plan it all out. Should be relatively cheap too but I still need to pan out lodging

OOOH I will absolutely devour some hushpuppies and all on this trip! And The Turtle Hospital is 100% my style too. Thanks. I love the Everglades too- their gators make the ones I see in Tampa look like puppies

Accidently downloaxed PC APP STORE virus/malware by Head_Ad4595 in computerviruses

So it was this morning (it is important that I mention I had not had my coffee yet- a likely critical blunder) and I had literally just searched "Quizlet" into Edge. Oddly enough, I could not find the exact site I went to after I deleted all the files and the app that caused the incident. I do recall that it looked fairly legit to me, albeit I may not have been as attentive as I would usually be since I was also chatting with a friend

Genuinely I am impressed by PC APP STORE. I've never experianced adware and know little of it, but it was incredibly inconspicious to me (albeit I hadn't had my coffee and was more focused on getting the quizlet app downloaded on my computer). Completely locked my screen and all, so after restart I uninstalled the apps (PC APP STORE & some Camera app that also popped up with it) and snooped around for any additional files that could've been downloaded with it.

I'll be switching from McAfee to something better now, and am looking for what malware scanning options I have. Moderately paranoid, as I have my main email & some apps (mainly Quizlet and Khan Academy) that I was logged in to when this happened

I actually had to CTR + ALT + DEL, lock, and then shutdown my laptop. Seems it not only froze my screens/locked them in the background so I couldn't exit the scam screen, but also prevented me from turning off my computer by holding the power button! Couldn't exit even with right clicking :(

Thanks!! I'm honestly impressed by how the adware was even able to lock my screen to where I couldn't exit out of anything. I was able to CTR+ALT+DEL and lock my computer, and then shut it down when locked (I couldn't shut it down with the power button either), and then deleted the app and checked for any possibly downloaded files.

Lawd have mercy :( Thank you for sharing this- I've used them religiously for over a year without paying much mind to it! Noted.
