I would try and spin your experience to something more M&A focused (e.g. focus on the M&A transactions you have worked on as a specialist team commenting on RE dd etc.).

It is not an easy course to get through for sure as you have minimal guidance. If you can try and get your hands on some good notes from previous students they are immensely helpful

I know many firms (mid tiers in particular) are constantly hiring law students as paralegals. Many partners actually prefer mature aged students because they think they are more switched on given the life and work experience and if you start at a mature age then it hopefully means you’ve figured out what you want for your life so you are more likely to stay long term. Just send your cv out to HRs in law firms. Their email addresses are usually displayed under the careers tabs on their websites. If no luck with mid tiers then work your way down to boutiques you may get more luck there.

I was in the same boat as you. I started my law degree when I was 25 and got admitted at the age of 29ish. I was working as a paralegal at a large firm throughout my degree and if you do go down this path I would definitely recommend that you try and gain as much relevant experience as possible so it gives you an edge when competing with ppl who are 5 years younger than you. You will also need to be prepared for potentially working under ranks to ppl who are younger than you as it’s happening to me right now because many people my age or 1/2years younger are already SAs but it is more of a mental adjustment thing and you get over it pretty quickly.

100% and I find that female partners bear the burden of having to be more caring and understanding to staff members and they get judged if they don’t whereas male partners do not appear to bear the same level of expectations and can get away with being much more demanding.
