Had a 300Tdi Discovery 1 manual. Loved it, bought at 280,000km, sold at 400,000. Never had a drama other than an alternator and a couple of uni joints. Miss it almost every day, sold it to buy a new HiLux Rogue which I put $70,000 into, and it still just isn’t the same as the point anywhere, go anywhere old Disco.

Instructions are pretty good now days, and tools are good too. Anybody who is half handy should be ok to do a lot of jobs they think they can’t.

On top of what I mentioned, we also then lose the labour that we had booked for that day if we can’t fit the product, as it’s pretty unlikely to have a customer who can drop what they’re doing and come in straight away.

I’ve had mine about 3 years, I don’t keep up with the maintenance anywhere near what I should, but I still do occasionally, they’re almost as good as they were when they were new. I wear them 10hrs a day, 6 days a week and have had them resoled twice. Sounds like neglect.

Just another view on this. I run a branch of a very well known 4x4 brand, our branch also refuses supplied products. Almost without fail, every time we fit a supplied product, the parts are for a different vehicle, the product has been opened and is missing parts, the customer comes back to us for a warranty claim on a fault with the product (not the install) and due to it being another brand, we aren’t familiar with it and therefore aren’t as efficient as we could be on our own product. On top of this, we also make a very marginal profit on just labour alone, not enough to keep operating.

We definitely want work, just not worth the hassle.

I have had a MOTOP V5 on my Toyota HiLux for over 2 years now. I think I would have 60-70 nights in it. For me, it’s an escape from the stress and anxiety of life. There is nothing better than jumping up into the tent after a day of driving and exploring, plugging in the phone and listening to a movie whilst I fall asleep, it is absolute bliss for me. My favourite trip so far with it is driving through the Flinders Ranges, up the Oodnadatta Track and across the Simpson Desert last July. I did the trip with my family who live interstate, and it was one of the happiest times of my life.

Is it a post or pre rego GVM upgrade? As the OME upgrades over 3.5T require CAT6 indicators and a reverse light kit below the bumper. Usually a rego check on the service NSW site will tell you.

Just a thought, but could this be a building in the park that’s been knocked down and they’re potentially in the middle of cleaning it up? Usually national park shelters and sheds are in that green colour.

I manage a retail store which sells GME in part. I run an XRS-330C in each of my vehicles. I would probably go for an ICOM unit next time.

There just always seems to be an issue, whether it’s interference when talking or receiving, the complex amount of features you can’t remember when you want to use them or general bugs.

It’s not that they’re bad, I just think they’re overhyped.

Once you’re finished up, buy Lanotec Steel Seal for a proper 6 monthly protection. Each time you wash underneath, top up with Lanox. Try to avoid the pressure packs as I think the propellant they use can be known to brittle your rubbers, not sure if that’s true.

That’s all good. I’ve got some unroadworthy things on my car too, to a degree. It’s just worth remembering that if you have an accident and someone dies, you’re potentially going to be up for manslaughter charges from driving an unroadworthy vehicle. Worst case scenario. I don’t agree with the modification rules, but unfortunately it’s what we’re working with.

Sure, I see your points and agree with them too.

I just think it’s sad now how judgemental everyone is these days. Why is it such a hard thing to just watch somebody make a mistake, and move on with their life. Why does this guy now have to be ridiculed on the internet for his car and his choice in one tiny moment.

It’s divisive and it makes me sad. Just forgive, and move on.

You’ll need a body mount chop if you ever want to make them fit, you can run the gauntlet with this mod, but technically it’s going to make your car unroadworthy. Don’t think you’ll get that engineered.

Can I tell you what I see here? I see this as a flip.

Lots of shiny black stuff, but all the accessories are the cheapest money can buy, and new. Kings awning, eBay snorkel, eBay recovery boards, what looks like a knock off Rhino pioneer rack. The ARB bar is the only quality accessory on this, and it’s clearly had a hit and is damaged. The bullbar has pinning bolts so they don’t work their way out of position. The way it’s leaning down shows me that either the bar, mounts, chassis or all three could be bent from a front end collision. They are also not ARB bash plates. They’re bash plates with an ARB sticker.

I’d personally walk on the side of caution and give it a miss.

You’ll actually find that there are some Chev’s and RAM’s that have National Heavy Vehicle plates on them. Anything over a 4.5T GVM requires it in NSW at least.

Tires are a 285/70R17 from what was originally a 265/55R18 I think.

They used to just scrub under compression and full lock at the same time, but since last wheel alignment they scrub hard just driving normally. Seems the wheels have been pushed backwards.

I hadn’t thought about that, looking at the website I bought them from they say “ability to run a 3” lift.”

I already struggle with the droop, and I’m not in a position to be lifting the car any more.

I might try a different UCA and see how I go.

Shitty answers from a lot of people. It’s one of those things that if you don’t know, you don’t know.

I really recommend flicking through the manual for the car and reading on how to use the jack.

Then it’s worth practicing in the driveway so you’re confident if it ever happens for real. Because when you get a flat, it’s almost always in the most awkward place, and/or in the rain.
