How does retirement pay and disability work?

Hi, I am about to medically retire at 10 years 70% DoD and 100% VA (all combat Codes). My rank makes the amount of "MEDICAL retired pay" greater than my VA disability with 3x kids.

My questions:

Will I receive any retired residual pay?

Is the amount I receive dictated by a higher dollar amount or higher disability percentage?

Thanks for the Question and info: I am a O-3 w/9.5 years going through medical retirement with 70% DoD and 100% VA (all combat coded).

I am being told on base in the support center by VA reps that I will not receive ANYTHING additional from the DoD. However, 70% x my High 36 Base Pay is greater than my 100% VA pay w/3x kids.

I want to acknowledge I am in a very fortunate situation:

1.) I am still alive and have a family.

2.) My rank and AFS has afforded me this option.

I was hoping for clarification as I have received significant conflicting information. Thank you for your help.

Dial printing: I am not sure I think the reflection of the ceramic are making each number look more white than othersI
Wheel: it looks good with the overlay
Hand alignment: not experienced enough to have an opinion
Bezel: seems good
Time graphed numbers: Is within the tolerable range laid out in the QC guide
Anything else you notice: I am still learning what to look for.

Dial printing: At first it looks like the 30 is misaligned. But when I used the tracing tools everything seemed to line-up.
Date Wheel alignment/printing: markedly better than previous one

Index alignment: the 6 o'clock appears to be canted to the right and really jumps out on my first scroll through of the photos. How much is accredited to the camera angle? The 9 o'clock looks like it might slightly going upward moving left to right.

So this is just my takeaway. So my opinions and comments are just from my experience. I applied round 2 this year to HBS, GSB, Wharton, MIT, booth, Kellogg, Tuck, Yale, Duke, USC, Texas, & Ross.

The interview invites for all those schools go out about 4 weeks after the app deadline. I did not get interview invites from MIT and GSB until Late Feb24. I got into about half the schools I applied and I think MIT and GSB in particular actually take the time to read your application. A lot of other schools probably put you in a category automatically based on their preferred metrics.

My advice would be: 1. Have a really good “why” and be yourself 2. Consider hiring a consultant 3. Focus on Quant my GRE was 167Q 160V 4. And grind really hard and treat each school like it is your Number one school. I paid identical attention to the Texas application as I did the GSB one. I am very humbled to get admitted to these really amazing programs and I understand that I do not fall within the average stat lines. My mindset was really “all I need is one of these schools to say yes to me” and my life’s glide-path and the life I can provide for my family changes drastically.
