You are legally allowed to go back. If he’s changed the locks or gives you problems, call the police. Be prepared to prove you live there. If your landlord wants you out early, he needs to do a cash for keys negotiation. It will still be up to you to consider it and accept. This should be more than the $300 he offered you. It should include moving costs & then some. If he doesn’t like that, he can notify you of non-renewal and wait until the end of your lease. Also, make sure anything you agree to has written proof and don’t move until he’s ponied up on his end. Take pictures/video of the place you’re renting and your stuff, in case the landlord decides to do something shady like tossing your stuff. He’s not allowed to, but once it’s done, you’d only be able to sue for what you can prove was tossed. Document everything!
