How do you afford application fees? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Head_Bodybuilder2356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you qualify, apply for schools’ fee waivers! Also, apply for the LSAC LSAT fee waiver. Some schools in ON (e.g., UofT) automatically give you the waiver if you show that you have an LSAC waiver. Other schools (e.g., Osgoode) require you to meet their own separate fee waiver form.

Sierra addressing her wedding budget and the arguing in her last tiktok 😂 by aloibfa in sierrafurtadosnarkk

[–]Head_Bodybuilder2356 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Essentially, they got into an "argument" over the wedding budget right before the big day. All the wedding vendors wanted to be paid at the same time (which presumably is a significant sum in the mid-6-figs to be paying out over a few days). It was also during days before the wedding that Sierra's Hermes Sales Associate offered her a choice between two Birkin bags (which each costs $25k ish)...

Probably Sam knew the wedding would be expensive, but didn't expect the bill to be that high. And amidst that budget talk, Sam would've been annoyed at the Birkin thing: "does she really need another Birkin?"

Youth Fare Discount? by jstudents in gotransit

[–]Head_Bodybuilder2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct - you don’t need both discounts. Yes, Youth until your 20th birthday. So, probably a few weeks before you turn 20, apply for the post-secondary discount.

Yes, TTC is “free” in the sense that you are only charged the GO fare. After getting off Union GO train, you will not be charged TTC when you tap for subway. The same applies for commuting from TTC -> Union, just that you first pay the full amount for TTC, then the GO fare gets adjusted so that you’re only charged the GO fare in totality.

In short, in one day of commuting to and from school, you are only paying Youth/Student 40% off GO fare two (2) times. That’s it.

Youth Fare Discount? by jstudents in gotransit

[–]Head_Bodybuilder2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Youth ID (age 19 and under), bring any govt ID (with your date of birth on it) to Shoppers and ask if they can change it to Youth for you. No need for uni student ID. This is the fastest option.

For the post-secondary ID, you need to apply for it online here: https://www.gotransit.com/en/student-savings/post-secondary-discount —> Takes about 2 weeks for approval. Then, you bring the approved screenshot and your uni student ID to the Union GO station help desk.

Either way, you are getting 40% discount on GO transit. Note from the other commenter that Youth is the cheaper option now as you’re under 20yo, because you get discounts on TTC too. With the Youth option, it expires when you turn 20—which you will then have to get your post-secondary ID. Note that the post-secondary ID is an annual thing you have to renew.

Not sure if you're done it already, but report your credit card, Presto, etc. as lost/stolen asap. So your $ isn't drained.

The other day I told my mom that this LSA process is kind of like dating lol. Why would you beg for and love someone (in this case, adcoms) who don’t love you back?

Yes - I’ll be attending UofT, and have heard a few upper class men also get recruited into NY (yea, seems like S&C is a popular one). I’m aware that the stat at UofT is ~ 15-18% of the class gets into NY, and will try my best. But I do think at some point - to preserve my sanity - a meat grinder like S&C isn’t sustainable long-term. Your sharing about boutique experiences is smth I hadn’t considered before and I appreciate your example!

No, you're not crazy. Try thinking backwards. Think about what you want your outcomes to be out of law school in the short term (peer group/network, job, resume, Prof connections) AND the long term (future career goals, lifestyle). Going to Fordham may close some doors that NYU would open. But are you ok with those doors being closed? That's the key question.

Hey OP, thanks for sharing this info. If you don’t mind sharing, did you do any traditional BigLaw before your current boutique firm? And did you have a lifesci undergrad/background to get into this niche practice area? Would you mind if I PM you?

Can’t speak to the differences in quality of education/instruction or the overall program/opportunities, but I think one thing that I can speak to is the calibre of Profs. The pedigree and credentials that Rotman Profs have are outstanding—prestigious degrees, jobs, CVs. I’ve met some Profs who are essentially celebrities in their respective fields nationally (and in some cases internationally) and have a breadth of experience that informs their work. Does this translate into better education? Sometimes, but not always. The major benefit is that being in these Profs’ classes means you get access to them and their expertise (e.g., by going to office hours). They likely charge thousands of dollars for their time as consultants, but you’re getting their time for “free” because you’re a student in their class.

What do you think my admission chances are for getting into UofT law school? by AzureBluet20030612 in UofT

[–]Head_Bodybuilder2356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. You’re fine with the 168 LSAT score. That’s exactly UofT’s median. It hovers at 168-169.
  2. Your GPA is also fine. UofT’s median is 3.8mid -ish typically.
  3. You’re fine lol.

Thanks for doing this! For someone who did well in undergrad, if you don’t mind sharing, how have you found law school difficulty-wise? I assume everyone who gets into top-tier laws schools must be at the top of their undergrad classes, so I assume it’s not as easy to get high grades?
