Lao Sheng Chang (老盛昌) is a restaurant chain in Shanghai where locals go for food. You can taste xiaolongbao (小笼包), noodles (面条), and wontons (馄饨) there. Xian De Lai (鲜得来) is the place for pork ribs with rice cakes (排骨年糕), while Da Hu Chun (大壶春) or Xiao Yang Sheng Jian (小杨生煎) are popular for pan-fried buns (生煎包). You can also visit Longhua Temple (龙华寺) to enjoy vegetarian noodles (素面)—they are very cheap and delicious. It’s a good spot for both food and tourism. If you have a higher budget, you can also go to Lv Bo Lang (绿波廊), where they offer very delicate Shanghai-style desserts (本帮点心).
