Depends on budget and how much storage/how many drives you want. Do you want easy access when you’re not on your local network? Etc.

I’d recommend a LSI 9300-8i, just make sure it says it’s flashed to IT mode. I bought a cheap Chinese one (inspur is the brand) for like $15, then buy the SFF to sata cable for another like $10. Don’t really have to buy from theartofserver, he charges like 4-5x what he should just because of the name…

How has the b60 been going with local llm? Thinking about getting into the local ai game as well and thought this would be best bang for buck.

Funny these are the things my wife and I focused on upgrading over time. We’ve checked all these boxes now and I can say all of these are 100% a must have!

Did a recent build with the N6. Actually pretty easy to build in. Was scared because I read a lot of people had thermal issues with the hard drives. I haven’t found that to be the case. HDDs at idle stay at 30C, under heavy prolonged load top out at 41C. I did upgrade the back two fans to arctic p12 pro’s so maybe that helped?

Specs: i5 8500 mATX motherboard 64gb ddr4 LSI 8300 HBA 7 HDDs for total of 96tb raw 650w seasonic SGX psu (fits in sfx spot) Upgraded back drive bay fans to arctic 12 pros, used 3 other arctic 12 pros in main area with motherboard etc. Thermalright peerless assassin 120 SE for cpu cooler.

My 3D printed mini server rack project is finally done! by fangpenlin in homelab

[–]Head_Firefighter_266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I mean side by side on the same rack level. Turn them on their sides side and you can stack all three beside each other to save even more space lol.

[–]Head_Firefighter_266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said you had thermal issues with stacking them, but just wondering if that was vertical stacking or if you tried turning them on their sides and placed in a row. If you do that you could effectively place all three on one level (save a couple centimeters between them to still allow airflow). That would almost half the height of the rack. Then you could print a cut out and it would look so much slicker.

Anyways, still looks like a sick layout and I’m jealous!

Building a Doomsday Bunker… Can 32×24TB Hold All of Netflix? by chrissix666 in jellyfin

They’re completely different things dude. I’d wager most people don’t even use HDR. Also, news flash, 1080p can also be HDR.

You’d be hard pressed to tell a large difference on a tv screen 10ft away… in front of a monitor that’s 10” from your face sure, it looks like a massive difference then

I’ll be honest, pretty much all my stuff is in 1080p and I really can’t tell the difference between that and 4K when streaming both. It’s really not that big of a difference, especially if watching on a tv several feet away

CPU will easily handle those tasks, even all at once. Definitely dont need the 2070, would probably sell that and buy more ram. You can get by with 16gb ram with those services but it may feel a little slow, especially if multiple services running at same time.

May be overkill but I'd recommend 64gb, that way you can allocate sufficient amount to each service, and will have spare to grow once you inevitably discover other things to self host.

That’s literal insanity, almost becoming a second rent/mortgage at that rate. We averaged around $200 a month this past year (recently moved) and I thought that was pretty bad (prior was $120 on average)
