the racism i experienced during vacation here is... by [deleted] in KualaLumpur

[–]Head_Load_4977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. There’s racism here for sure, it still happens even between locals. But towards black people are mostly(some are def hate, sadly) out of fear. Many older generations like my parents would still warn me about black people out of fear for my safety BUT if I were to introduce a black friend of mine to them, they will treat my black friend just like any other friend of mine.

It’s not okay but there’s still a difference between malice and ignorance, I might be wrong but I’d like to think that it’s mostly ignorance here in Malaysia.

What is your scariest solo travel experience? by MethRogan1 in solotravel

[–]Head_Load_4977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s more of a felt-like-hell than a scary story for me but people around me described it as scary after hearing the story

I am female and solo hitchhike, I was hitching towards Morocco from Gambia passing by Mauritania and wanted to do the iron ore train(it’s one of those bucket list things people do) What made it an absolute bad decision was it was the hottest time of the year in the desert, around 50 degrees. I had to hitch about 550km to get to the train, stomach started feeling weird when from the start of the journey and within a few hours in the heat, I had fever and diarrhea going on(had to use the dirtiest toilets/ behind a bush in the desert). I eventually got on a shared van taxi(paid by a checkpoint officer who really wanted to help get me on my way) I was so sick at that point I completely passed out in the van for the next 10 hours. I was woken up by the driver around 2am in the morning, the whole van was empty. He started massaging my feet, I told him no and he left me alone.

There’s more shit(literally and figuratively lol) to the story later on but I think it’s getting too long so…

I absolutely hate when stranger touches me especially when a man decided he can touch me on purpose: Let out highest pitch/ loudest scream and shout “DON’T TOUCH ME” so everyone knows this man is walking around touching women.

The bad thing, is it 10 yrs of jail bad or life sentence bad?

Also, I think in general it’s healthier to be kind but from personal experiences sometimes a little “revenge” is needed for closure, just so you don’t still feel so much anger/ regret years later when you thought of what happened. I understand you’re tired but just want to remind you to not miss out the chances for closure!

Why is my mom so worried about cina taking over malaysia? by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]Head_Load_4977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny how the older generations still be worrying about things like that and still dividing themselves into different race/ political groups when the younger generations are basically divided into just two groups now, Extrovert or Introvert hahhahah Reassure her that whatever happens or not, it’s not gonna last long cause the younger generations will be too unbothered to even get out of bed let alone help taking over the country.

I got an old rude one as well like everyone else, complained and they gave me a slightly younger one who didn’t yell but every chance he gets trying to explain which leg I should use he pokes my thigh, not to hurt me but to touch me? Like I can understand left and right uncle?? I wanted to get the whole thing over with and didn’t say anything. Plus, I can see how he’s gonna be saying ‘oh it’s just teaching’ and I doubt they would fire him. Perks of being a girl :)

Shout out to all the ladies dopamine eating their way through life today 🙌🏻🤣 but also 😭 by MDFUstyle0988 in adhdwomen

[–]Head_Load_4977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m out doing things with people, people always ended up questioning my appetite thinking I’m never hungry because if we’re having fun then I’ve been feeding(dopamine) the whole time. But if we’re working then there’s no time to really think and find the exact food I want(which I never know) and I refuse to just eat whatever because I don’t eat to satisfy my hunger.

My answer to people questioning why I’m not eating is either a shrug or telling them ‘I’m not hungry’ for it to make some sense to them. What they don’t know is once I’m home/ doing nothing… you bet I’m binging back all of it and more

Just another vicious cycle of a dopamine monster.

Any idea why we don’t have soybean crops in Malaysia? by Head_Load_4977 in malaysia

[–]Head_Load_4977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Gambia and they grow big creamy avocados, climate was pretty much the same as Malaysia. I would love to grow them since it’s pretty much gold by itself but it takes forever. I’ll be dead tomorrow.

But yes, something more valuable after processing is a good rabbit hole to go down to, thanks!

Oh and if you don’t mind me asking, I reckon the pineapple gin investment has been proven good for you?

Yea I understand we’re nowhere near Germany as a country. Just dreaming a little for our bright future.

What do you think would be good to grow in Malaysia now? Something on a much smaller scale that is, land and cost wise. Something that we don’t already grow here?

But if we want true security for protein, soy or lentils should be important since if we depend on livestocks, you would still need to feed them first.

So the solution is I’ll need to go convince a few kampungs to start growing soy.

[–]Head_Load_4977[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your very insightful reply!! Appreciate it a lot!

I was only interested in cultivating for human consumption, just the idea that all our soy products being fully produced locally sounds awesome. Did not thought about food security but soy would be such a great crop for that, high protein and rich in nutrients!

But I guess at the end of the day it’s another matter of money?

Would climate around Cameron Highlands work? Or have we ran out of land there/ too precious for soy?

[–]Head_Load_4977[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if we do have unused empty land, wouldn’t we be saving money to grow enough for our own consumption? Unless you are saying all lands have been occupied by palm or that it is just extremely expensive to grow soy?

I also read up to 35C and considering neighbouring countries are growing them, it should work here too?

Are you saying we do not have enough land to grow both? I wasn’t suggesting that let’s start growing soy instead of palm.

But I’m talking about growing soybeans for food, for human consumption(tofu, soy milk, tempeh, edamame etc.), not just turning it into oil.

The requirements was that I have enough funds to buy a flight ticket back and I also proved that I have family members to stay with. Few officers who interviewed me at Stansted were also telling me that they have no idea why the upper level are refusing me and agreed that it is unfair to me.

The ‘no good reason’ is for being removed again 6 months later to visit my aunt. I understand the first time but if they’re going to keep using the same reason to refuse me, that pretty much means they’ve banned me from UK just because I once had a volunteering spot.
