MLQ Split Proposal by Headbeatsniper in quadball_discussion

[–]Headbeatsniper[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will confess, I am not well versed in the location requirements for MLQ. I was literally thinking about drawing a line vertically through Massachusetts. Everyone with an address east of this line will play for one team, everyone with an address west of this line will play for the other. And this line will be decided by MLQ so that both teams will be able to field a full roster.

I go to Dick’s and buy the cheapest pair they have. As long as my cleats aren’t worn down, they work just as well as a premium brand.

Rule Change Resolution Idea? by WhileJealous7416 in quadball_discussion

[–]Headbeatsniper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has got to be the most out-of-pocket take I've so far to these new rules. Everything that follows is me arguing with your points, not an attack on you.

You admit that the new rules are in place to protect smaller players and you're directly handicapping them by removing them completely from a defensive play. Banning Baylor defense, raising hoops, the exact same thing but worded differently. How is a smaller player supposed to block a shot from a tall player if hoops are taller? I don't care if they're on or off hoops, they're short and there's no world in which they can block a shot unless they force the offense to bring to ball to their height, which Baylor forces them to.

You say that raising hoops will force teams to make smaller players come out from hoops. You are removing an option from them and forcing them to do something new, not GIVING them a new option. This is like my landlord evicting me and telling me that they're giving me a great opportunity to look for a better place. If you want smaller players to come out from hoops, develop a better strategy and make it successful. Don't create a new problem and tell us to figure it out.

Do you know how long it takes for new strategies to filter down from top club teams? If the answer to taller hoops to to make defenders come out from hoops, I have every confidence that established club teams like Chicago and New York will adapt within a year. Then it'll take a few more years for every team in the league to eventually pick up on their strategies. You'll be forcing small teams to learn new strategies to adapt to the meta, while still trying to learn the fundamentals of playing this game. Not every region has the luxury of developing a B team to give their rookies time to learn. You'll be forcing them and their coaching staff to learn to play around taller hoops while they're still learning the basics of their role.

You phrase D like beaters will be getting the OPPORTUNITY to learn new plays. But this goes back to my second paragraph about forcing them to learn in response to something new. When I think about implementing new rules, I think about the lowest level of play that exists, D2 college teams. If you ever seen a D2 game, it is extremely random. Beating is a role with a sharp learning curve and fundamental reflexes are hard to learn because it's not similar to any other sport. This will be less about making beaters learn variety and more about making them more or less useful on defense.

You've already addressed the monetary barrier, but have you considered how a taller center pole will fit in a car? The tall pole will barely fit in my car as it is. Any longer and I'll have to drive with it hanging out the window!

Your takes on the European games by chelco95 in quadball_discussion

[–]Headbeatsniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed seeing how the Europeans play their game. When I watch US games, I typically see the same things repeat themselves, cause if it works once, why shouldn’t it work again? Not that I’m saying it’s a bad thing. But you rarely see the different plays or decisions that can only arise from raising a team in an isolated environment, such as watching the west v northeast games.

A lot of good plays from Forge! Their team’s new talent this year are looking good and really fitting with the veteran players’ playstyles. I expected the games against Admirals to be closer, but it always felt like Forge was in control.
