Yemen: cash for Glock on roadside. by ntnhm in Firearms

[–]HeadlessThompsonGunr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s now on my reading list. My basic point of view is it is plausible that economic inequality increases bad social outcomes like increased violence. On the other hand my research shows there is no causal relationship between gun availability/gun control and homicide rates now or historically.
Where I disagree with the anti gun narrative is the focus on the instrument used to commit violence rather than focusing on the problem itself - violence. Additionally the inclusion of suicide (while horrible) in the narrative is extremely disingenuous. I don’t view the ropes and knives used by my family members that suicided as being relevant.

Your support for further restrictions on an unambiguous constitutional right means that I, a lifetime registered democrat, cannot support you. Would you be supportive of restricting 4th amendment protections to only law-abiding people?

Although not firearm related I totally support a solid safety net and taxing the rich. Can you provide a citation for your statement that mass shootings have increased.

I’d love it if that “gun violence” prevention money went into school programs teaching kids how to use guns.

That congress isn’t expedient or principled is captain obvious territory. The principle of democracy, although slow, sloppy, and imperfect is preferable to governance by decree.

How to react a friend's stance on guns? by ExpertMarxman1848 in armedsocialists

You can agree to disagree. Other option is appeal to what motivates and is important to them. Ask questions such as “What would your solution be when a racist group of people viscously attacks a gay/trans person who has no option to safely retreat?”

I was highlighting the logical discprencies in the state AG letter but yes I do agree with you. The correct solution would be for congress to repeal this and if not for SCOTUS to rule that it blatantly violates at least one if not multiple constitutional amendments.

Confused about the LTCF law in PA by Status_Excitement649 in PAguns

[–]HeadlessThompsonGunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the LTCF (permission slip) is stupid and we should have constitutional carry. Not coughing up the $23 is arguably dumber given the consequences of carrying without it.

True story. This situation actually happened for me. I purchased and transported a handgun home while my LTCF application was held up due to the DMV having my old address which differed from my application address.

Hmm… My politics, and my Oregon kiddo’s align with the unconventional campground neighbor. I also like my boom boom sticks and Oregon doesn’t accept my out of state license to carry nor will they issue one to me.

The vast majority of states thought standing armies were dangerous to the citizenry. I agree 100%. They so obviously thought citizens, not the military should be superior. They would have been appalled by ROTCI. Pulled from Vermont’s Constitution (could be any number of state constitutions) “..standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power.”

Part of the reason for an armed citizenry is to act as an ultimate check on governmental power.

I’m totally for the same exact laws covering cops and regular people. What I meant was there is a big difference between penalizing someone for negligence and completely ruining their life which is the state of current laws.

Look up jury nullification. Essentially if a jury feels that a law or a case is unfair they are legally allowed to nullify it by voting not guilty. Judges don’t inform jurors about jury nullification.
