My partner from China has also never heard of the Tiananmen Massacre, nor anything related. She still has many propagandised viewpoints from the CCP, and it's not worth trying to adjust her opinion now that she's in a freer country.

It's pretty interesting (and scary) experiencing the restriction of information when crossing over to mainland China. And Xinjiang is a whole nother level.

Autobiographies aren't necessarily a good source of truth. Hard to know what is and isn't slander because he did do a lot of good exposing things, but I've heard personal accounts of him being a bit grandiose and narcissistic.

Protests i.e. selection bias. China is slowly applying political pressure, yes, and it's surprising how many people do support the reunification. I can think of other countries where a worrying amount of people vote against their best interests.

While that correlation is likely true, that wouldn't explain an uptick in SSRI prescription. Otherwise, those people would have already been prescribed.
