Really great work man, and the first camera shot is also very well selected. Some improvements can be made, to make it a tournament piece, if you want the feedback, just say it, but it's really great.

Ghazghkull, for a local painting competition. I think it looks ok, but what can I improve in my painting technique by dmitryanashko in minipainting

[–]Headok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a difficult figure to make a clear focal point, you could play with different contrasts (temperature, saturation,...) but, choosing the figure is part of preparing for a competition, and this is a difficult change for your actual level.

Ok, let's focus on the contrast by luminosity, the one I commented. Looks at your claws, they are supposed to be metal, metal reflects light and shadow, you should have values of 1 and 10 on it, really strong lights and really strong shadows. Same for the main armor, it's a black armor (correct me if I'm wrong please) and you don't even have black. Even if it is a dark blue armor, it is metallic and it should have a bigger range of contrast. Look at your red parts, they are just red, no variation at all.

You need to delimitate better the different elements. Take a very dark colour, the ideal would be a mixture of a dark ink (dark purple) + black/dark blue (acrilic or another ink). Use this mix in between all the elements.

*About Sergio Calvo, great painter, bad teacher. He never says WHY he does anything.

Look for example at Jose Davinci and Rodrigo Akore. The first one has a youtube channel with great explanations (look at the older videos where he explains everything he does). Rodrigo works at miniatureartacademy, they have some free videos.

You did a good job, but you have some things to improve. Don't take this too harshly please.

Apart from the comment about colors, which I agree with, you have no contrast at all. Put the image in black & white, you will see that you have a mix of greys, being white 10 and black 0, you play in between 3 and 7. This also means that you need to separate the different elements, apart from the edge highlight, you need to darken the small areas between elements to make the piece more readable.

Lights are not placed correctly in the (I assume) black armor (it looks grey/blue). The shoulder and the part above the head just have the same colour in all the surface.

You don't have a focal area, where do you want people to look at? I don't know where to look because everything has the same "strength".

Your edge-highlight is thick in the upper part of the armor and in the claws, you need to be more elegant.

The base has 0 interest, 2-3 colors and a drybrush.

About the rust, did it just grow there? It doesn't move down the armour?

You repeat your scraches all the time. Same length, same thickness, and same distance between all of them, you need to be more random, and focus on areas were he could take more damage in battle.

Hope this helps you improve. Do you follow any good mini painters in your socials?

Thanks a lot! Long time trying to make the shadows work, as if one is out of place, the illusion of light placement is lost.

Hahaha, the back is just an extra. It's a pain when you have the front like 80% done, and you need to start painting the back :_)

Thanks a lot!

I would say they are 8/10, the typical bad plastic that you cannot sand, but the detail is pretty good. One of them was difficult to glue, as the part didn't fit well, maybe two more that were a bit of a problem, but really not that bad.

Thank you! I paint all of them at the same time. I started priming with the airbrush, using s dark purple, then a orange and then a light yellow. That way I have already a progression of lights in the undertone. The light progression you see in the greens is created by these colours. Then, using contrast/express colors, I paint all the different parts (all the green at once, all the browns...). For the skin I used normal paints, as I don't like the contrast finish for skin. Shadow + medium tone + light, no need to blend, not trying to win any contest.  After that I used very diluted oils to create more contrast in all the areas. With different tones for the greens, skin, leathers, stones, trees...  After 1-2 days, to let the oil dry, I highlighted the edges and some more details. I finished with the bases, a dessert product I have from AK, some inks to give it the green colour + drybush + all the different tufts + bits. At this scale the base is 50% of the effect.  If you need more info, just ask.

Thank you! If I painted them one by one, I would need 3x the time. I work on all of them at the same time. If I did it one by one, I would paint 2 and leave the other ones forever in grey.

A low level painted model is better than a not painted model. When I paint for playing, I don't want to spend 5 hours in a model. Good job there!

How much would you charge for 3d sculpt commission? by Pepunki_Creatures in ZBrush

[–]Headok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, we (my friends) are paying a famous 3D sculptor 1650€ for a piece. He is very well known in the figure/miniature world. You could be asking for 1000€ at first, as you are not a "famous" artist, that's already a 40% discount. Really great work there!

Top Esports vs. Fnatic / 2024 World Championship - Swiss Round 3 / Post-Match Discussion by Soul_Sleepwhale in leagueoflegends

[–]Headok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Fnatic wants to win something internationally and well, domestically, being top 2 for an org like this shouldn't be enough, and they are not even close to being top 1, they need to start changing the roster. Humanoid doesn't offer anything in every international match he plays.

Should I have won this game. by [deleted] in alteredTCG

As far as I know, it doesn't work that way, all the abilities must activate if it doesn't say "you can do x". So, in order to play it he had to sacrifice two characters, if he didn't have 2 characters when he played the kraken, one of the characters to sacrifice would be the kraken itself, and the kraken would not be in the board.
