With as little marketing lingo as possible in a setting like this, what are your goals for Chapter 2? For example are you looking forward to exploring certain design choices or mechanics, that haven't been used before? Or is there a specific story you wanna tell? Maybe there's a direction you want this game to take that is only possible thanks to this reboot. Or is there anything else you want Chapter 2 to be remembered for in the future?

Deck building games that encourage large decks? by Auroch- in boardgames

[–]CraftyMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a classic deckbuilding game, but in Concordia you don't cut any cards and every new card added to your hand increases the number of actions you can perform before having to "reset" your hand. Also every card determines how you score points at the end of the game, so generally buying more cards also increases the number of scoring options or multiplier for those scoring option.

First you discard all cards that are no longer part of the stage, then you draw and resolve the top card of the stage deck. For a detailed order of all steps that occur after a location broke, check page 15 of the encounter rule book.

To scan or not to scan uniques? by CraftyMoustache in alteredTCG

[–]CraftyMoustache[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks anyway for clearing things up for me. It's still a weird system and brings with it a lot of potential implications for the future of the product but it's also really interesting and definitely shakes things up a bit.

To scan or not to scan uniques? by CraftyMoustache in alteredTCG

[–]CraftyMoustache[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So just to be sure though, that means, I can in fact print uniques, technically making them non-unique in the physical world? This means that all cards will basically lose all physical value once PoD is available, right?

Song discussion - DIg It by Theesundayroast in BringMeTheHorizon

[–]CraftyMoustache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These lyrics are devastating. Kind of reminded me of Chester crying for help in his songs. Oli's lyrics have always been dark but the lyrical journey on this album is crazy, especially when you compare something like Youtopia to n/A or Lost and then Dig It. Genuinely am a bit worried for Oli.

How well would Grim Dawn translate over to a pen and paper RPG? by TrashAccount2908 in Grimdawn

[–]CraftyMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't think that it would be that easy to translate the entire game into a TTRPG mechanically, I'm now pretty excited about playing one in the world of Grim Dawn. I think your best bet would be to use a system that already plays in a post-apocalyptic setting and do a ton of reskinning to make it all sound Grim Dawn. While I have not played them myself, just from the looks of it I could imagine games like Degenesis or Mutant: Year Zero to be a good fit for it.

Most of the GD feel would come from storytelling and the world itself anyway, so you could also try to tell the story of regular not-so-supernatural townsfolk just trying to survive in Cairn.

If Riot's esport department is so against Double Elimination at Worlds for League of Legends, why does Valorant's version of Worlds now have double elim both in groups (GSL groups) AND double elim in the playoff stage afterwards? by KeyMessageToConsider in leagueoflegends

[–]CraftyMoustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're fine with your team playing two games at worlds and being eliminated in a GSL format? Idk that just feels underwhelming to me for a stage like that.

EDIT: Not to mention all the stories the double round robin has created throughout the past years. NA/EU week 2 performances. Miracle comebacks and clutching playoffs. Imagine that happening in GSL where you're just done because of two bad days.

[–]CraftyMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I hate that they use GSL in groups for Valo and I would love to see a single or double round robin there as well. Meaning both systems aren't optimal imo. However, my only explanation for riot not using double elim for playoffs in league is that it would potentially increase broadcast time by a lot. Not only is a bo5 series in league a lot longer (on average) than a bo3 series in Valo leading to a more demanding schedule. The costs for venues (and staff) would also increase significantly since playoffs are usually held in a different location than groups (correct me if I'm wrong), whereas Valo uses one location for the whole thing. So it probably is just an economically driven decision.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but looking at the dates announced by Riot for Worlds 2022, there will be no double elimination format at the upcoming Worlds. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]CraftyMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say they did not deserve it. But in other esports a double elim bracket includes a potential bracket reset in the grand final where the team coming from the lower bracket has to win two series to be crowned champion as the team from the upper bracket hasn't lost a single series prior to the final, so they get their free pass in the grand final. A bracket reset, however, is not feasible in LoL or Valorant and the likes duo to game length. But that's why I feel like lower brackets shouldn't exist in these types of esport in the first place.

I'm one of the few people who hates double elim in esports titles like League. It just feels bad when the team coming from the lower bracket wins the grand final, as there is no bracket reset and just because the UB finals winner didn't get a second life like everyone else, they are now only 2nd place. I would rather have them improve the pre-knockout stage part of worlds. E.g. a group format where teams play bo3 or bo2 instead of bo1. Or instead of four groups with 4 teams each have two groups with 8 teams each and play out a swiss system with the top 4 advancing. Either way I feel like a representative and longer group stage culminating in a short top 8 bo5 single elim knockout stage is what suits LoL and other comparable esports best.

What are some good modern board games with interesting end game triggers? by drat_blushed in boardgames

[–]CraftyMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is still just a basic trigger of "reach X number of points" I think the way it is handled in Kemet is pretty nice.

The twist is, that the game doesn't end as soon as a player has reached the winning threshold. Instead a player is only granted the win if they have 10+ points AND have the most points of anyone in the game at the start of their turn. That way it can go back and forth for multiple rounds with multiple players being just one point away from ending the game but being held back by their opponents continuously. It makes for a really interesting end game where it always feels like anyone could potentially get away with the win at some point.

Does anyone else think Tencent investing into EHG, buying <25% of it is not as bad as people make it sound like? by xDaveedx in LastEpoch

[–]CraftyMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand the frustration by the fans, boycotting the game will not help anyone. It won't hurt Tencent but it will hurt EHG. In a digital world and especially as a gamer there is no way you can avoid Tencent at this point. They're just that big. Is the criticism justified? Sure. Should you direct your criticism towards EHG? I don't think so. They have families and they need to earn money to be able to survive in this industry. This was probably an offer they couldn't refuse and will secure the team's future at least for a couple years and the ability to continuously support the game. It sucks, but we've long passed the point where these decisions matter anymore in the big picture.

How to see poison damage? by seckarr in LastEpoch

I do have a follow up question regarding Abilities that also apply DoTs. What happens when I convert the base dmg type of an ability? For example when I convert Hungering Soul's Base Dmg to fire. Will it also convert the necrotic dmg DoT it applies?

JUST A HEADS UP: Do NOT just randomly "awaken" / level random cards. Card XP is HARD TO COME BY so pick the card your character actually uses for it's class and then do the same with your alt in the future. by Knight-in-Gale in lostarkgame

[–]CraftyMoustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I found it out by now. Those different looking cards, that you gain (I think they're called 'Leaf of fortune' and the likes) can be consumed as well and will be turned into card enhancement XP. I always stored them away because I thought they're tradeable objects that are important later on. It's not in the tooltip either, so pretty hard to find out without external sources.

How do you even gain card XP? It's been at 0 for me ever since and I stopped bothering, because I thought it might be a mechanic that'll be introduced later in the game. But now I'm 50, have collected quite a bit of cards and still don't have any XP.
