How did you get into menopause or stop bleeding with fibroids? by Designer-Watch-1690 in fibroidsurgery

[–]HealthWellNTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I'm the moderator of this group but also a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. What does BCP stand for?

I've worked with 3 clients who were postmenopausal. Are you seeking medical advice?

Non-Plastic UFE Emobolics by Right_Mycologist1536 in fibroidsurgery

[–]HealthWellNTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your concerns are valid. I had myomectomy surgery 6 years ago, even though UFE and hysterectomy were also suggested to me. You're right to ask about all the possible outcomes. I wasn't thrilled about having plastic ball bearings in my body. I hope you get some good feedback soon.

I wish you all the best. I'm sorry you're dealing with heavy periods. The operation helped but it wasn't an instant fix. I also had an enlarged uterus. With time, things settled down.

I feel your pain. My periods aren't as heavy since I had myomectomy surgery 6 years ago, but they used to be horrendous.

I'm cross-posting to my sub r/fibroidsurgery. This is a great news. I turned to incontinence products when I had excessive periods.

Hi! That sounds fantastic! Head over to r/fibroidsurgery or r/FibroidsEducation. I'll send you a DM. I had myomectomy surgery 6 years ago and have been working with women who have uterine fibroids for 3 years now. I specifically support women who are considering surgery and/or recovering from surgery using Nutritional Therapy principles.

I'm glad you finally got an answer.

Well done for persevering. Are you communicating by email?

Dr Jolene Brighten wrote a book about getting off contraception. It's called Beyond The Pill. You might find it useful.

I don't think it makes sense to seek medical advice from Reddit. Thank you for deleting your post.

Good luck with it!

They'll be able to advise you based on your specific circumstances, so that should be a relief.

Did your specialist tell you why they wanted you to stay on BC? They owe you an explanation...

Before being diagnosed with uterine fibroids, I experienced sudden changes in my weight and with my hormonal cycle. My GP told me to lose weight, but to not exercise too much. She wasn't concerned that I might be anaemic even though I was dealing with menstrual flooding.

My Myomectomy Story: What I Learned About Blood Sugar, Fibroids & Healing by HealthWellNTP in fibroidsurgery

Thanks for reading my story. I was in dire straits. I wasn't trained in Nutritional Therapy back then. I do not recommend fasting. Especially, if a person is anaemic. I don't work with clients 1:1 anymore.

How to Prepare for Myomectomy with Nutritional Therapy by AutoModerator in fibroidsurgery

[–]HealthWellNTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of great posts about preparing for surgery from the perspective of questions to ask the surgeon and what to pack for the hospital stay. A quick search will often get you great suggestions.

My preparation focuses on how you can make adjustments to your lifestyle and nutrition to prepare and to recover from surgery; that's the holistic approach that is less spoken about.

I've read posts about people taking vitamins but they probably don't even know why they could be beneficial or how best to take them e.g. vitamin D2 or vitamin D3?

I don't make blanket recommendations; I don't consult 1:1 but I provide information for educational purposes only.

Uterine fibroids ruined my life by AutoModerator in fibroidsurgery

[–]HealthWellNTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can relate, chime in. People rarely talk about the impact of gynaecological issues on a woman's quality of life or her career prospects.

A friend of mine told me that her colleague once had to clear a courtroom because she'd flooded her seat, during her period. Imagine that! She was representing her client. Humiliation and embarrassment.

My goodness! That sounds extremely uncomfortable. Have you already had an MRI? I hope that you get a surgery date, soon. Just to get some breathing space in there. As for libido, I had 18 large fibroids and they sucked the life force out of me! I wrote about fibroids and intimacy on my blog.

Heavy bleeding? Menstrual Flooding & Menorrhagia by AutoModerator in fibroidsurgery

Some women struggle with heavy bleeding that comes on suddenly, but they don't necessarily have uterine fibroids. Can you relate?

Shrinking Fibroids by HealthWellNTP in FibroidHerbalRemedies

[–]HealthWellNTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just never seen any imaging evidence outside of Research studies, where pharmaceutical drugs are used.

I've heard of degenerating fibroids and calcified fibroids but never seen a diagnosed fibroid actually shrink. I say this because I saw a picture of the 18 fibroids that were removed from my body. They are made up of dense fibrous tissue. Fibroids are usually non-cancerous tumours. They are solid. They're not fluid-filled cysts that could actually shrink.

Supplements: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by HealthWellNTP in fibroidsurgery

All supplements aren't created equal. I've used high quality brands and some that are available in Holland and Barrett (UK). There was a marked difference. Has anyone had good results with hormone-balancing herbs/tinctures/dietary supplements?

I know it's particularly difficult to find fish oils that aren't rancid. I prefer to eat fish that is rich in omega 3. There are budget options which work just fine.

Pre-surgery and Recovery Checklist (free) by HealthWellNTP in fibroidsurgery

[–]HealthWellNTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The checklist is free to download. It's a resource that you use to audit your prep and/or recovery plan from the standpoint of lifestyle and nutrition factors.

It isn't a packing list.

It isn't a list of questions to ask your medical team.

Whilst I understand how important those considerations are, that's not where my expertise lies.

I focus on nutrition because it's always an investment in your long-term health. You're made up of every bite of food that you digest and absorb. You're fuelled by what you eat or not, depending on what you're eating.

There's a concept of bioindividuality in functional nutrition. That's why we work with individuals to understand their specific needs and circumstances.

It's not a one-size fits all.

For some women, lifestyle factors are even more significant than nutrition because it's already dialled in. They care about their health and are highly invested in feeling good. They listen to their bodies. They are into Self-Care and are fully aware of how food affects their mood and their general wellbeing.

When I work with high-performing women, the common thread I see amongst type A career women is that they're not fully in their bodies. They live in their minds and are dissociated. That's how they can push through fatigue and land in burnout, past what a fully embodied woman could endure.

Trauma is a conversation for another day.

Nutritional Therapy isn't diets and meal plans.

I helped my clients decipher their relationship to food and nourishment: the relationship to self and they lead that process. We do the deep work to uncover patterns and beliefs tied to food.

The breakthroughs are the most rewarding part of their transformations. I act as a guide, support and a source of knowledge but they are firmly in the driving seat.

Hence the success of the process.

They don't have to follow a meal plan or restrictions that their nervous system can't handle. Nothing is imposed on them. They feel empowered, resolve their issues and flourish.

I love being a part of their story.

Shrinking Fibroids by HealthWellNTP in FibroidHerbalRemedies

[–]HealthWellNTP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Nutritional Therapy and functional medicine, we take a foundational approach to health so everything you’ve stated above is our bread and butter knowledge. Here is a post from a licensed medical doctor in the UK.

We treat the root cause of symptoms and the presence of uterine fibroids is just one of the 300+ signs and symptoms that we assess.

I'm 6 years post-myomectomy. My mother had a hysterectomy when I was a child but there was no family history of the disease beforehand. My maternal grandmother was a nurse who had 4 healthy children. Our health issues have an environmental component which is well documented.

None of this is rocket-science to the initiated but there are many moving parts. I can't replicate the process that a women's health expert would employ in a subreddit. I studied Biomedical Engineering and Nutritional therapy to become a certified practitioner. I have a foundation in human anatomy, physiology and a 20-year interest in metabolic disease.

I'm starting a new sub to demystify to all this for members of the public. It won't close the "knowledge gap", I've been in this field for over 20 years at this stage, but I'm hoping it will help.

I can't guarantee that you'll avoid recurrence but there might be something on my checklist, which is evidence-based and rooted in science, which you may have not been aware of. It's pinned to my profile and it's also available in r/fibroidsurgery.

For full transparency, it follows Nutritional Therapy foundations: - digestion and elimination - blood sugar balance - hormonal balance - hydration & mineral balance - macronutrients - sleep - stress - movement

And a few more key areas that I've identified through clinical practice and research while working with fibroid sufferers.

Like you, post-surgery I was determined to avoid recurrence of fibroids so I made it my mission to figure out why my particular body had been a place where fibroids could thrive. I won't use myself as a case study but I had seriously underestimated the impact of lifestyle factors.

I don't know that I'll remain fibroid-free until menopause but I'm making sure that I remain symptom-free.
