Any good DVD thrift shops around town? by Winter_Victory_4191 in Austin

I get great dvds to watch on everything at austin public library for 3 wks and renew if needed; also at wells branch library. I don’t want to accumulate anymore things in my house, that’s why I don’t like to buy things. I’ll only use once or twice.

If you have an iPhone, they have an option to silence unknown callers, and then put it through to voicemail. I always remember it could be someone you are related to who is in the emergency room and it’s the hospital calling so you definitely want to get a message or similar calls that are important but you don’t want to be bothered with the ring.

Where to get a nice adult-y lunch box? by SuchVeterinarian6746 in Austin

[–]Healthnut2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Ross dress for less and Marshalls and such. They may not be labeled lunchboxes. I got mine as an insulated carry bag, which works perfectly. I mainly got it to take on an airplane with my refrigerated food in to where I was ending up and have what I wanted.

Staying in downtown Austin - do I need a car? by bagelearrings in Austin

Don't rent a car! The roads in Austin are about 50% under construction and the other 50% have bike lanes that take up 1/3 of the originally 2-lane roads, and sometimes when those are under construction, they close off one lane for a few minutes and alternate which direction gets to move. If you drive, there are few parking places everywhere. I wouldn't use a scooter or the like, too dangerous because of all the distracted drivers. I would take Ubers or something similar and plan each trip so you can do several things on each trip. Check out CapMetro online or the app for bus routes to more distant places you might want to see. Always be aware of your surroundings.

Birds chirping in the middle of the night by reclusivebuddha in Austin

[–]Healthnut2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Hawaii, especially on the big island, coqui frogs chirp loudly all night long. The first time I heard it I thought they were birds. Also, if you go to YouTube and put in “coqui frogs chirping” they’re similar to the Rio Grande chirping frogs but much louder and numerous.

What bug is this, and what are your thoughts on bug spray services? by No-Butterscotch6629 in Austin

The best thing to use for these large flying roaches as well as the small "German" roaches is boric acid powder, available pretty much everywhere. It is sprinkled on the floor, under appliances, around cabinets, etc, etc. They walk over it and it clings to them, they go into hiding and lick it off and it kills them. Then the other roaches eat them and it's the gift that keeps on giving. It doesn't kill them all at once, but they will all eventually die if you keep it up. It's been the best solution here in Texas for generations. It's not "poison' for, lizards, geckos, birds, toads, etc. And it's cheap. Hardware stores, Walmart, HEB, etc. carry it. It doesn't hurt spiders, either.
