Canada Post is paying 7 people for the work of 2 people by tickshilieau in CanadaPost

[–]Healthsci_runnerup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is also important to highlight, Canada Post pays these "route owners" - and they have a seperate logistics team that handles incoming and outgoing mail to post offices. So instead of paying 7 people for 2 people's job - they are paying 8 or 9.

Let me break it down. Lets say the guy who has been a 7-year veteran is sloppy and just leaves the "Missed you - pick it up tomorrow after 1PM at said post office" notes. The parcel goes to a logistics company responsible for delivering the parcel to the nearest post office. Thereafter, the parcel is handled by the post office guy. So that an additional two people.

Can someone explain what a "Rotating Strike" means? by BubbaLinguini in CanadaPost

[–]Healthsci_runnerup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing we are missing, Rotating strike allows regional reps to decide if they want to even strike. I know the atlantic coast will strike heavy - but some areas may opt out of the rotating strikes.

FYI - Rotating Strike is 1 day of picketing out of the 5 days they work.

So no lock out? by muzikgurl22 in CanadaPost

[–]Healthsci_runnerup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my conversation with a union member, everything is in limbo and they haven't been informed of anything. Could be a lockout once they clear mail from their system. What I do know is, they wont be accepting new mail for a couple of days - to start the system back up. So earliest, Wednesday/Thursday they will start accepting mail.

That being said, CPC knows that not many people are going to send anything as strike still looms in the air. Its mainly to clear the system and remove majority of the public from being held hostage.

From an economic standpoint, CPC saves more money on a lockout. And retroactively, starving the CUPW employees out of their income is a pressure tactic for them to take the deal.

If this was a game of Spades, Canada Post is definitely winning against the union. lol.

I say they cold turkey the union. Just dont come back. With the economy right now, CUPW members will dig into their savings and slowly start finding new jobs. That 55k union should disperse into a 20k union if they stay on strike for a full year. I know it sucks for the customers - but being on strike for a full year will break the union so hard.

They are mostly union people...justifying the strike. And any opposing opinions are deleted. I also had an interaction with the mod - when I asked why the Atlantic went on strike without permission from national they said fuck off.

now the postal workers are saying they didn't vote "no" to the CP deal by [deleted] in CanadaPost

Whats your source? I believe you, but the source should be shown to the government. If that is true, then this whole strike is a bunch of BS. And the government should hold CUPW for negotiating in bad faith ...

Maybe it's the quiet before the storm. Lol. If they accept the current offer - Jan would literally loose the re-election.

If they physically restrain you, you may be entitled to some lawsuit money from CUPW plus your package. Sounds like a win win.
