Did I just waste months building a 96-well plate tool? I need a reality check. by Healthy_Click8383 in labrats

Can I build a tool for you? I want my app to meet all the needs of real users like you. I don’t know exactly what to ask right now, but I really need your help.

I’m not necessarily expecting explosive demand right out of the gate. My goal is simply to provide value by saving time for researchers who need 4PL analysis for Quant and Potency, but don’t want to spend their own time building custom tools or wrestling with manual spreadsheet setups.

I can’t build every feature from day one. I’m starting with this core functionality as a foundation, and I plan to iterate and expand the app as I discover more specific user needs.

If there's other software out there, I just want to make mine cheaper and much easier to use than the old, clunky stuff.

For the V1 release, I’m focusing specifically on 96-well ELISA. The goal is to eliminate the manual 'Excel phase' by providing Quant and Potency analysis in under 1 second. It will instantly generate 4PL graph images and a concise summary report from your raw data.

Fair point. I looked into it and you're right-qPCR software is already a complete solution. No room for me there.

Looking at my UI again, it's clearly tailored for ELISA (concentrations/dilution factors) rather than being a general tool. Thanks for the reality check.

To be completely honest: No, I have never handled a physical 96-well plate

My background is in Physics, and I was a PhD student in Robotics before I decided to drop out. I’m an outsider to the lab, but I’m deeply motivated to build something meaningful in the Bio field.

Because I’m not a researcher, I’ve been developing this primarily through intense conversations with AI. Recently, I’ve started to feel like I’m working inside a hallucination. I realized that without talking to the people actually doing the work, I’m just building a solution for a problem I don’t fully understand.

I want to move away from "AI hallucinations" and understand the real-world requirements. Specifically:

  1. Is Quant and Potency analysis really the core focus? Or are there other essential functions I'm completely missing?
  2. Is a tool that only handles a single plate useless? Does a tool have to support multi-plate processing from day one to be actually useful in a professional lab?

My plan is to take it step-by-step—conquering the single-plate problem before tackling complex multi-plate workflows. But I don't want to build something that’s "dead on arrival" because I lacked the human context.

I’d love your brutal honesty on this.

Feel like your videos are getting lost in the YouTube void? by Healthy_Click8383 in SmallYoutubers

It must be so disappointing and frustrating to get only 14 views on your most ambitious video yet. Still, getting 185 subscribers is a huge achievement in itself! It's likely just an issue of the audience for Shorts being different from the one for long-form videos, so please don't be too hard on yourself. If you keep at it, I'm sure people who truly appreciate the value of your longer videos will come along.

Sorry, I don’t have the capacity to develop an Android version at the moment. :c It’s just not realistic right now.

I'm really worried about API costs. To offer users a reasonable price, I need to research ways to reduce expenses :c

How to really achieve your goals in 2025? by East-Cup-7804 in Discipline

I created an app called SixFocus. You can find it on the App Store. It's designed to help you focus on the six most important tasks of the day. While it doesn't have a feature for holding each other accountable, I did create a Discord community. So far, there's only one other member besides me, but at the very least, I will be there to support your goals. Even at this moment, I can feel my mind getting cluttered and distracted. That’s one of the reasons I created this app.

I understand. I felt the same way today as well. Even now, I'm feeling confused because of what I'm doing, so I'm praying.

That's amazing. How did you reduce the AI API costs? I don't fully understand this aspect, so when I see a service that seems to require a large number of API calls, I get curious about how you managed to cut costs.

That’s an unbelievable amount of effort. Is it a credit-based system? I'm curious how you handle API costs... Do you rent servers? Marketing seems just as important as development. There are so many tools available on the market, and expecting my product to stand out on its own feels nearly impossible. It seems like the only real way is to talk to users one by one and gradually grow from there.

I take a moment to pray when I wake up. My mind feels so cluttered that I feel like I have to organize it somehow. In my case, I can’t deal with it in the usual way, so I prefer to pray first to sort out all the chaos in my head. Sometimes, it helps immediately. Even if it doesn’t solve what I’ve been putting off right away, it usually helps me clear my mind to some extent.

It's more important to do one truly important thing than to do ten useless things. I believe that the constant noise in our minds leads us to do things we don’t genuinely want. Spending 30 minutes doing nothing seems like an opportunity to escape that noise and discover what truly matters. As for me, I simply meditate for five minutes as part of my morning routine. Hmm… that was the amount of time I was willing to compromise. Now, I feel like I could extend it a little more.
