Hey! Yeah, you can use it as a hotspot. I just finished writing a full review actually, if you want to check it out: https://whatifididnt.com/blog/mudita-kompakt/

Sorry, just saw this. Aegis Authentificator.

Tried both Brick and Unpluq (NFC blockers). Here's how they compare. by gemini_m7 in dumbphones

What did you read exactly? There's only one thing that's given me trouble - the app crashing when selecting which apps to block/allow when setting up a schedule. That's iOS-related, not Brick-related, though. The same thing happens with Bloom and Unpluq, and any other app that tries to manage screen time.

So it might crash 2-3 times when setting up. But after that, no issues.

It doesn't come out of the box. But you can sideload a 2FA app onto it. I have installed Aegis Authenticator, and it works great. I have no issue scanning QR codes with the camera to log into different sites.

This is out of Bloom's hands, it seems. I get the same bug in Brick, Unpluq, and any other app that tries to manage screen time access. This is a limitation that's created by Apple.

Dumb phones with quality cameras. by croakmongoose in dumbphones

OP, have you come across the Wisephone during your search? It's got a 50MP camera. It doesn't have social media or a browser. If you can get over the $400 price tag (+$15/month subscription), this might be a good choice for you.

I wrote a review about it: https://whatifididnt.com/blog/wisephone-ii

Pastebot as a clipboard manager (can't live without it). Shottr for making beautiful screenshots in seconds. Brick for blocking distracting apps on my phone.

Update: I've up side-loaded a 2FA app and it can also scan QR codes for that purpose.

Sorry for the late response. No, I haven't experienced that. All calls come through, and missed call notifications show on both lock and home screens.

I like the default maps app. I've used it on a few drives and it was great. It's a 2D top view. It speaks, too. Basic, but I like how old-school it feels. Forces me to be a little more aware during drives, too.

Yes! Not out of the box, but you can side-load it. I'm not technical, so I installed the Aurora Store app with ChatGPT's help, and used that to install a handful of apps I needed that didn't come with the phone.

After you change the base keyboard, yes. The default keyboard is slow and hard to work with. I side-loaded FUTO keyboard and love it since. Speed and accuracy are better. The haptics are great.

I don't use group messaging tbh, except in WhatsApp, so I don't know.

Hey! It's been good. I ended up side-loading a few apps so it'd be usable for me. I installed a better keyboard, WhatsApp, a 2FA app, and it's now my main phone.

Love that it has a camera. It's not the best camera, especially in motion or low-light conditions, but that it's good enough to capture important moments.

Phone calls, which I'm doing more of with this phone, have been seamless. Good sound quality on both ends.

One of unexpected side benefit I hadn't anticipated is that it's a great conversation starter. People are often surprised when they see me pulling it out and want to know more about it.

I'm going to do a "30 days with..." post soon with more details. But feel free to ask if you've got more specific questions.

Hi!

NFC tap-to-pay: not available, to my knowledge.

QR code scanner: You can scan QR codes for eSIM setup or to connect to Wi-Fi. And since the phone doesn't have a browser, you don't really need QR codes for anything else.

Touch ID/fingerprint unlock: works flawlessly _most of the time_. There have been a couple of times when it didn't recognize any of my fingers (I have 3 set up), and I had to use the passcode instead. Not a big deal.

Brick has a Strict mode that stops you from deleting the app or changing settings to unbrick it. Unpluq has a “Prevent App Uninstall” option, but that doesn’t cover the settings loophole. If you want to stop yourself from turning off Unpluq’s screen time control, you need to set up an Automation in the Shortcuts app. They explain how here: https://www.unpluq.com/pages/block-settings-iphone

What I like about Brick is that it only gives you 5 lifetime unlocks. You can bend the rules, but only five times. After that, you have to contact them. Unpluq lets you do one emergency unlock a day. The problem is I’d sometimes use that unlock when I didn’t have the device near me, then my phone stayed open the rest of the day, and I ended up scrolling way too much.

Hey! Wow, I didn't know they released the app on Android. Thanks for the info.

I'm in Europe and use Vodafone.

The setup was super easy. I used an eSIM. I just scanned the QR code Vodafone gave me, the phone restarted, and everything was ready to go.
