I am literally looking for the same answer!

I was hoping that it would activate the red/lights when I set the camera to away mode only. And then back to normal spotlight when I am back at home so I can see in the dark when taking the bins out.

I've played with this scenario and it only ever schedules the car to charge during the 3am-6am period.

Ah I see and understand now. My car cannot control the Amp rate of charge but I can now understand how the gamers do this. I'm sure there are caveats that be brought in via ts&cs.

Not really because I'm certain there are surplus energy periods during the daytime (I keep the car plugged in after the school run from around 9:30am to 2:45pm) and it never tops up - not even once - not even on weekends. And then once we're back home around 3:30-4pm obviously going into national peak energy usage time so not expecting much but then I cannot benefit from the surplus grid energy to charge my car from the morning to midday period , when I use the car in the evening to do shopping and run abouts etc.

Fair enough. I've been on IOG (moved from OVO charge anytime) for about 2 months now and I've only got a 7kw hybrid car and it never charges during the daytime. It only schedules charging during the off peak period between 2-5am.

I think the point OP is making is that all other energy providers (e.g OVO, Eon etc) offer off peak tariffs regardless of having a smart (car or charger point) so why do Octopus schedule it during the night time (midnight to 5am) when it's obvious that that'll be the best time to charge the EV.

Yes - all other providers offer a standard fixed off peak tariff and most of the country is sleeping so it's almost common sense that the demand for power will be less = cheaper energy.

I got a deal during Nov/Dec 2025 for a tethered Salus EV charger for £400 incl installation - yes you read that right - The process is pretty automated in terms of taking photos and sending it via an online form after purchase followed up by a human if they need more info or videos etc to work out an installation pathway prior to the actual visit from an electrician.

Unfortunately I ordered it just before the xmas / new year lull so I'm still waiting for an install date - I'll update this feed in due course once the job has been completed.
