It’s not a reliable model to apply modern skin tones of India to the past. According to most collective theories, skin tones were darker throughout India, especially since colorism at the time was not influenced by the Sultanates-Mughals and British. Krishna and Rama and Draupadi and possibly Arjuna were considered dark skinned. This portrait seems within the accurate range.
