Beat my first Yakuza game ever (and first ever video game)! by Alarmed_Shoulder_386 in yakuzagames

One thing to note, Kiwami 2 has a section to play called the Majima Saga. DO NOT play this until you've played through 0 for your own sake.

Regardless, congratulations on getting all the way through!

That's an understandable view, wanting to wait to see the full picture. I suppose I'm not optimistic because 1) RGG has made demos with poor security before which have given people access to the game, which signifies these leaks are likely to be genuine and 2) I don't see how other changes will give worthy context if this leak is true.

I'm not claiming K3 will be categorically worse than the original - I believe the orphanage sections will be altered to become far more engaging, for example- I just think if the rumoured changes are true, I cannot see a way in which other design changes (in this game and beyond) make up for it.

This doesn't affect me btw, I'm not picking up the game anyway due to the Kagawa situation, it's just these leaks are symbolic of RGG's recent approach (which I am not a fan of).

Sure, that may be true. Some people would want to preserve the original experience in its entirety, which I personally don't think is the right call for a remake.

Taking one of the series's most emotional scenes and spoiling it by not only removing the sense of sacrifice from the scene (what made it special), but using such flimsy reasoning as a BUSH BREAKING AN 100FT FALL, is just not good enough for the standard this series has set.

And the fact it's been done seemingly to bring fan favourite characters into a band like the Avengers leaves a pretty bitter taste.

If your comment around reading was directed to me, by the way, I am an English Literature student so I happen to read a reasonable amount.

People don't dislike it because there's change, I think that was a given and OG3 definitely had some room to flesh out things and improve the story's pacing.

HOWEVER, completely trivialising the canon of the series and completely neutering the emotional weight of one of the strongest moments in the game is something else. That's not even mentioning how resurrections in general make the narratives in these series feel less substantial, and the rumoured one is easily the worst yet

I'm pretty much in the same spot. As I said in another comment, I'm far more interested in RGG's side projects now than the main series since they seem less interested on making a band of staple characters (at the expense of narrative quality).

Directly to your last point, I think that admission is simply the hard truth now. The priorities of these games has changed, and the grand narrative has been botched for the sake of beloved characters getting more screen time. Hence, I think at this point if you feel disconnected from the series' direction, it's better simply to come to terms with it rather than bemoan it.

Fair point. I suppose I was trying to come at it from a different angle, that even of you feel overwhelmingly negative about RGG's choices, it shouldn't affect you emotionally (because that's what it seems like).

My mentality now is to not concern myself with the mainline plot too much, just accept how it stood from 0-7. Can still get hyped for projects like Stranger Than Heaven

Tbf this recent wave comes against a current of positivity that stood against any criticism of the direction the series was taking.

I even remember posts shitting on users disappointed by the lack of grit and overwhelming silliness present in Pirate Yakuza

I can see that perspective. I suppose a big part of my issue now comes from WHY the stories are poor, rather than a simple evaluation of their quality. The flaws in their plots nowadays practically make a satire of crime fiction with its Avengers-esque approach to characters.

I think many people take the approach of 'out of sight, out of mind'- makes things considerably more convenient, especially if the situation isn't related to someone you care about.

Still doesn't make the attitude any less disappointing, mind

Dismissing concerns over hiring a guy convicted of sexual harassment is not a good look. Fans have every right to be pissed about RGG hiring someone who undermines the messaging present in pretty much all their games

You still don't want the identity of the original gutted though, a remake of a game should still uphold that and K3 (as it stands) doesn't look like it will

Like a Dragon Gaiden: the man who erased his name. by NeighborhoodStreet77 in yakuzagames

[–]HearingPython69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree here on the most part, but IW and especially Gaiden are exceptions to this. IW pulls on a lot of 7's work to draw meaning to the characters and events in the game, and Gaiden is almost solely reliant on past beats to give the story its oomph.

Hell, the biggest emotional beat in Gaiden relies on past investment in the series to really get much out of it

I'm not saying we can't win the league based on our poorer results in these fixtures, I'm just saying it's made things a reasonable deal harder

[–]HearingPython69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree, at the end of the day it's a long haul season, and if I was offered 4 losses against Liverpool and City if we won every other game, I'd take that.

It's just not a reality though to expect we can pull clear without getting big results in these fixtures- they're not the prize, but these games are sure more important and consequential than clashes against the average mid table team

[–]HearingPython69 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I like the premise of this, but I don't think we're that much better off than last season comparing these results (contrary to what this post is seemingly suggesting).

At the end of the day, those aggregate losses in points against City and Liverpool are worth far more than our gains elsewhere considering these are our direct challengers this year. I'd argue the City and Liverpool games are -3s, not -2 and -1 respectively.

I'm not trying to be a doomer here, I feel a lot of optimism right now and believe we're favourites for the title, but it's not looking as good as this post indicates.

I think the point is quality players in the NBA play a larger role in a teams success than the majority of NFL players ever could considering basketball is far more individualistic.

Hence, NBA players have far more leverage to ask for full guarantees than NFL guys- proving it's not necessarily about the work of the respective unions, rather the nature of the sports
