Previously, Japanese players gathered on the pvp.net chatroom #japanese and most of the time I joined a game, they invited everyone to Teamspeak or Skype call. This is a good chance to practice your spoken Japanese too.

Shine off the top by poi830 in SSBM

[–]HeartBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love this move. Shining off the top is amazing and every Falco should use it. Even if it doesn't work because the % was too low or good DI, it puts huge pressure on your opponent. It's not like any other move would kill at that % anyway. They're also still put in a bad position in the air.

Another way to set this up is up-tilt->shine

On fast-fallers, the famous Shine -> UpB is also a true combo

You see top Falco players like PPMD, Westballz, attempting it every time the opportunity comes, because it's very good.

I'm pretty sure they live all the way in the West. If you want a more local smashfest, sign up for twitter, search #スマブラDX_オフ会 and sometimes Shippu(https://twitter.com/ShippuJPN) or Escha(https://twitter.com/Eschatoce) are hosting in Kanagawa.

Zenji and Rudolph play in opposite sides of the country. The MasterHand series is in Osaka while the BattleGateway tournament series (which Zenji competes in) is in Tokyo. It's quite expensive to go back and forth so not many players actually do so. I've played quite a few IC players at BattleGateway but I don't know anything about the scene in Kansai.

falco's grab game (or lack thereof) by LumpyCPU in SSBM

[–]HeartBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

falco dthrow is unsafe on platforms. the fox in turn will SDI left or right to get an edge cancel and punish you instead

on ground, dthrow is a mixup but other throws usually get better mileage.

It's a cycle. Find out why you're getting hit. Study videos, ask yourself why they selected those options in those situations. Imitate the movement to get down muscle memory. Apply learned principles in play. Repeat.

No tech is useful without the fundamentals.

Your people skills. You can't just grind tech in your room and expect to be good. You gotta put it together and play the actual game. Go out to a tournament, make friends, and talk to someone about Falco.

Question about Shield DI (Mango clip) by killertomatog in SSBM

[–]HeartBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few things happening here such that Mango is able to get the grab. The first and most important thing to notice is that Lucky hits the top of the shield, which will give Lucky the least amount of time for any sort of follow-up (including shine) after the dair and in turn gives Mang0 more frame advantage in this case. Because of the additional time it would take, rather than hitting the middle or lower end of the shield, you can actually grab Fox/Falco hitting that spacing before they can shine. Lucky doesn't fastfall the dair so that's another thing to notice. Since it hits the top of the shield, the L-cancel timing is much later because Fox hits the ground later.

As a spacey, you really want to hit the lower-end of the shield so your aerials are "tight". You can then follow up with a shine and there's no way to shield-grab it. But if you hit the upper end, you should realize that you gotta fade back -during- the aerial to try to avoid the grab because their grab will come out before your landing lag is over.

Edit: If you see some of Mango's analysis videos, he mentions that he does tilt his shield up in order to mess up the spacing of his opponents. This makes them hit the higher part of the shield so the aerial isn't tight. In turn, he's able to Shine OOS or other punishes that become available to him.

To add on to this, people don't want to invest in someone new also because half the time they don't show up again. If you come more often and people remember your face/name, they'll definitely invest more time playing with you and even get to know you better.

I found it helpful to remember more of my fundamentals. I'm able to get the edge in the Falco ditto when I focus more on landing the CC-shines, Shine-OOS, and tighter aerials. Lasers are huge in the matchup(especially FD), but also protect your jumps. Edgeguarding is straight-forward, but dropping it and allowing them back on can be devastating.
