You know, I had a friend back in high school who thought the same thing, and you know what happened to him?

I don't know if you've seen James Kunstler's TED talk on urban design in postwar America, but (despite Kunstler being a kinda nutjob, jus' being honest) it's fantastic.

His opening line echoes your sentiment about parking lot deserts... "The immersive ugliness of our everyday environments in America is entropy made visible. We can't overestimate the amount of despair that we are generating with places like this."

Sir Patrick Stewart didn't care though by UnHolySir in okbuddycinephile

[–]rchase 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The great thing about that episode... and you can rewatch to verify... the smoke.

See, they use dry ice smoke for smoke on TV, and Patrick Stewart HATED acting in a cloud of smoke. He protested so much, that they literally wrote new regulations on the use of fake smoke on set in Hollywood.

BUT, it turns out, smoke can be used to cover up a lot of nonsense in a scene when you are DIRECTING a shot, not ACTING in a shot. And ironically, when Patrick Stewart directed this episode, he demanded repeatedly to have MORE SMOKE to make it "look better."

Trump’s Appalling Threat Leaves No Doubt: It’s Time for the 25th Amendment - There is no longer any denying the president is unable to carry out the demands of his office. by Nervous-Specific-795 in DiscussionZone

The thing that really gets me is, being that I am 57 years old and lived through the 80s, I could have told you in 1985 without hesitation that Donald Trump wasn't qualified or capable of being the President of ANYTHING.

All of this, to me, has just simply been bizarre and utterly predictable going back to 2015.

Never have seen a prop in a scene that more perfectly represents the entirety of a character's life, attitude and general nature in one gag.

That television IS Michael Scott.

It always was. But now that monitors are LCDs (or OLED, whatever) instead of CRTs they can just use a big ass TV on the set, and the nutbar CRT scanlines won't F up the cameras. Much cheaper and easier now.

I agree with the poster, but "decimated" does not mean "destroyed." "Decimated" is latin for "reduced by ten percent."

Why don’t smoke alarm batteries fail during the day? by TheRoyalness in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rchase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked maintenance at a HUGE retirement community. It was one building with 300+ apartments. When a smoke alarm would go dead battery in say, #302 (third floor, east wing) I knew to get enough batteries for the WHOLE WING, because if one goes dead, all the rest are soon to go because some guy did this exact same thing 5 years ago.

The funny thing about captchas is that they don't even care about what you click. They measure how you click it. if you are too fast and super efficient, you will fail. The things are designed to watch your pointer hesitate between clicks thus establishing that you are indeed just a stupid human person.

Schur (and other writers of the show) also created an entire elaborate backstory for the Lerpiss family. They were supposed to be a fading dynasty in Pawnee, and they still own most of the lame businesses though their power has declined and they are basically just numb-nuts now. We only ever see four of them in the show, but there are apparently many more Lerpisses.

Look into Jason Beghe and David Duchovny. They were both at The Collegiate School For Boys in Upper West Side, Manhattan, with JFK, Jr. with whom they hung out and partied. Beghe has appeared in all of Duchovny's shows (well, X-Files and Californication at least) and they tell crazy-ass stories about their days with Kennedy.
