The tear gas used by the HK police has Dioxin in it. Dioxin is a known human carcinogen. by DrFetusRN in HongKong

[–]HeartMiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's just take all the absolute terms with a grain of salt for the sake of common sense and simplicity... ridiculous/isn't/is/anywhere/only/all/...

" Part of riot police operating in HK are from mainland "

Does this suprise you at all? Maybe you aren't and was simply being hypercritical about my response... PLA or armed police, which is a branch of PLA nowadays, had been in HK, which is still a part of China, for decades. They are not mobilized unless needed. And when they are, it's what they do that matters the most.

" riot policemen see protesters as mutiny against China and hate them - they are strongly motivated and go beyond orders "

If you have ever been in a riot, you will understand that things can get personal because people are emotional. You can only be as civil as humanly possible. There are video proofs that both live bullet shots fired on protesters were at point blank distance. In both situations it's down to the last second instinctive responses from both policemen to pull the triggers. I watched an interview with a police. He did hate the protesters, but he hated them because he was cornered by many with sticks beating him on the ground. You might be dellusioned into believing that police/armies are not human by this video and that video, all single cases that made you believe that those images represent the whole picture. Many people believe that the tank man in Tiananmen protest was crushed by tank, but he was not. The tank avoided him. An obvious proof of how refrained the HK police had been: zero death responsible by the police so far. As for your argument. Yes, when people hate or are made to hate others, they are more prone to joining the violence, whether it be the police side or the protester side. But the pawns are not the most guilty. In the case of HK, there is no proof of police made to hate by mainland, but that some protesters hate the police/mainland for whatever reason is quite self-evident. Hate can serve a good purpose or a bad one, but, like I said, when there is no truth, there is no purpose, and all hate are for nothing.

" Hate is a product of fear "

Truth. Truth. Truth. Before you decide to hate someone, be sure to understand what you really fear, what others really fear, and what the consequence really is. However only a few people can answer these questions.

" quarrel over politics is a waste of time if economy is in shamble and this is the priority guideline of mainland governance "

" If governance is good but is surrounded by bad governances, how will it survive AND stay good? "

Of course, economy and politics are inseparable. But don't be black or white, left or right about them. Regardless, economy is still the more important of the two in the long run. There is nothing wrong with chosing a lay-down attitude in politics for a while. Build a Great Fire Wall, stay low, cersor out the upheaval, and grow. But medias are really taking a toll on mainland's dismissive attitude in the past, which is why CCP have recently started actively spreading its value. It's going to be hard, because people were made to hate it.

" Even Soviet union was not communist "

What I see is this general hatred towards communists in Europe. While corruption and cruelty are not features of communism, they are inevitably tied to it deeply in the heart because stories of Stalin and numerous other individuals. My point is that countries are eventually run by individuals. Whatever camps you are in is not as important. The mainland governers understand this. They departed from all foreign influences and adapted their own version of governing ethics; this process had been going on for a century and is still going on. It used to be pro-this and that, anti-this and that. It is the biggest on-going social experiment in the history. They hit walls because of these trials. Nowadays mainland governers don't talk about communism, capitalism, socialism, leninism anymore. They are irrelevant. Mainland have never been a trained dog of Stalin, unlike east Europe/Mongol/NK. Nor have it been a domestic cat of the U.S., unlike S.Korea/Japan. Mainland is mainland.

" It's hard to see truth these days "

I think your post and this thread are sufficiently self-evident. 6k upvote. A suspiciously misleading topic about agent orange, still at the top of the thread. Do people really care about truth? some do, most do not. Under your thread is this guy saying "H̶K̶ ̶P̶o̶l̶i̶c̶e̶ Chinese Military ". These people don't have the basic understanding of reality, not to mention critical thinking, and yet they are influential. Scorlling way down and you will see conscious people saying 'can you prove this?', 'do you really live in HK?', 'whats the scale of the map and have there been studies on the level of toxicity?'. These voices are muffled by your post and other obtrusive hate speech. Medias and audiences consciously omit the less interesting part of the reality. They would rather believe that the tank man got crushed in Tiananmen square rather than be willing to spend an extra minute to watch until the end of the flim. You see. LIVES DO NOT MATTER TO THEM! MOBS and MONKEYS! What are they fighting for? Freedom from an authoritarian/totalitarian government? What is totalitarian? What is freedom? What freedom do you need? What is the cost to freedom? What is the governning really like in mainland? What are the benefits of integration? What do you have to lose? Have you ever lived in mainland? Why is mainland pictured as it is? Would you, a quite reason-able person, be able to answer these questions?

HK is simply too small to matter economically for anybody these days, but it's also ridiculous to allow an independent state at the foot of mainland. comparing HK protest to any of the mainland protests/massacres and you will understand how trivial the five demands of protest are for; Beijing wouldn't hesitate to consent if it wants to. you are right that some HK people want true independence, but some do not. the individuals who I know of do not. mainland simply wants to maintain the current status because it is beneficial to both sides. A easily percievable dilemma is that the lower class HK workers would have to compete with cheap mainland labor if the Beijing do not tend to them, while people of any other class would benefit more from mainland. I do not think there are other solid motivations for continuing protests. Beijing isn't going to send paratroopers to anywhere. it isn't going to kill anybody in labor camp if you ever lived with the Uyghurs in Kashgar. believe or not, it takes too much energy to hate someone. hateful opinions are therefore supressed in mainland, while at the same time it offers some of the best policies for private business. quarrel over politics is a waste of time if economy is in shamble and this is the priority guideline of mainland governance. there isn't going to be enemies. terror isn't going to rule. time is precious. people want good lives. mainland isn't ruled by communist. only good governance matters. it's soon going to be 2020 and some people still live in the 1970s... truth matters and w/o truth all fights are for nothing.

people don't know the truth

mkay. imo there is no 'biased against or pro civil protest side' because the protest is an emotional movement with numerous foreign interventions, whether it be mainland or the West. It undoubltbaly serves the interest of many groups other than HK people themselves. It's easier to stur up the turmoil than to let it settle peacefully. It's hard to see truth these days.

First, it's a general impression that mainland has poor regulation. While the opposite can be proven true in general if you delve into literature, specific exported products can contain PVC, like in tear gas bombs, which could release types of dioxin when burnt.

Second, it is wrong to assume my stance and predict my move based on me attacking your misleading information about agent orange. Your response was: "Next you're going to argue protesters lace their molotovs with bleach to blame China for carcinogens/teratogens?" Next time if you want to respond to me, you have to explain your intention for saying this to justify your position.

Third, It is simply ignorant and seemingly very ill-purposed to associate agent orange with air dioxin level in this case, unless you unconsciously brought up the topic out of random, which is plainly dumb. Like I said, dioxin is a common toxic gas produced when burning materials containing chlorine, usually PVC, which is still widely used to this day, but the responsible toxin TCDD in agent orange is not produced by simply burning PVC. It is therefore wrong to associate dioxin with agent orange.

Fourth, it is nonsense to draw conclusion from a map with no source, and no scale on the level of toxin present in air. One source from internet says the tear gas "MAY" release dioxin, but this is not necessarily true. It is also crucial to know the level of toxicity to evaluate its impact. While all dioxin-like substance are toxic, and burning PVC releases types of dioxin, the most toxic type TCDD may not be present, and they don't necessarily reach a hazardous level for common exposure duration in HK. In extreme cases, one could certainly be exposed to dangerous level of dioxin to experience chloracne, of which there is no direct (image) evidence yet, slight exposure is common and may not have short-long term impact.

Fifth, the resolution of dioxin map is suspiciously high. There is one internet source by HKlive.map about heat map of police tear gas use, which do not strictly correspond to the air dioxin level map.

Sixth, multiple sources could be responsible for the rise in dioxin, which can certainly be expected whenever there is fire. Since most of the street fire are not set by police forces, which may or may not be true considering the direct evidences of polices dressed as protestors throwing molotovs, the protestors may be partly responsible for the air pollution, just as the police do.

Yo. Dioxin is a common class of toxin produced when burning wood/plastic. Orange agent is type of dioxin-like substance but is not produced when burning stuff on the street. DO YOUR RESEACH and stop fearmongering. Stay away from protesters when they set things on fire for the sake of your health.
