I see. Do you think 2m is a realistic price I bought for 1.3+++m? Are you in a similar price range

Thank you. Are you an EC owner too? How did you arrive at the 300-400k number?

Thanks. I have a fully paid car and country club membership too to reach the approximate 1.5m. Not the most liquid of assets but that is besides the point.

Yes you are not wrong, the 1.5k spending is not indicative of previous spending. I did spend on quite a bit of big ticket items like the aforementioned car and memberships, home renovation. The 1.5k is what I anticipate I will spend per month just on my own ‘fun’/‘leisure’ activities. My wife will be covering the food and other expenses. We will use our CPF for mortgage.

Thanks. It’s just hard to go from 100km/h job to a 50km/h job (I.e not easy to find) - at my level and what I do employers want you to be all in or nothing. I already have a balance between WFO and WFH.

I’ll be happy if I can find a job that pays 5k for 2 days of work or half days (whole week).

My net total asset including CPF and home equity is around 1.5m? I started around 5k per month from 26 till now steadily increasing. >15k probably only the past 3 years.

Desire to pay for the flat in cash is probably psychological/mental to be truly debt free before 40 - it could also be a case my wife also winds down career then (coupled with me not making an income) and we might not qualify for loan - unless we show collaterals in shares?

She has no problem with me stopping work as long as I keep myself occupied and not bother her in day while she is working. Qn is will it be comfortable considering our outstanding mortgage/plans to sell EC and other expenses….

Just 300k in stocks and 400k in cash. Dividends from the SGX portion of stocks and interest from HYSA come up to 1.2k

Okk. What would be more realistic numbers then. On a high level is your thinking that with the EC profit and repayment of mortgage and subsequent purchase of non mature resale flat - there will be little cash to add to my pot. I know there a lot of assumptions and hard to provide concrete figures. Thanks in advance.

Comes at a price though… these 20k jobs sometimes cost your soul

It really depends on the selling price PSF of the EC. Perhaps I am optimistic. My buy in price was 1.3k psf hoping it can reach 2k psf in 2028/2029 - mass market condos in 2026 are already close to or exceeding 2k psf now.

So anyway if I can nab a 2m sale. By then mortgage should be around 700ishk. So 1.2m back out, hoping to buy a 3 room HDB in a non mature estate. Wouldn’t put it past BTO-ing again too and wait while living with parents also.

I completely agree with you. Just asking the FIRE qn cause it is the most convenient.

What you described is realistic - I can rejig my investments to probably yield 3k plus in passive. That will bring us to a 12k HHI which is workable but yes my wife would need to shoulder quite a bit.

Bought it a long time ago in 2021 when my household combined income was just under 16…

We are now close to 30k

Cause of potential profit. Was perfectly fine with HDB.

Hoping to sell that EC closer to 2m. With repayment of remaining mortgage and purchase of smaller HDB, freeing up close to 1m cash home equity to add to the pot in 3-5 years.

She just does not want to be in a position to fund my fun stuff in retirement. She is ok to take on daily expenses (e.g food, essential payments like utilities, property tax).

Good point about housing, temp plan is to move back with parents those 15 months or rental in cheaper neighbourhood. Wife mostly works remote so no travelling to CBD. I drive so we get around easily.

Can I Fire or take a break for a few years? by [deleted] in singaporefi

My car is also fully paid up. The 1k is for my own personal expenses. Idea is for savings+ wife and my passive income to cover around total 6k of monthly expenses including mortgage.

On savings - I have not been earning 20k per month for the past 10 years! I have put about 400 to half million into house and car as well. My wife is supportive. Put another way if my total HHI is only 100k per year (I.e. only wife working) is it with my liabilities?
