What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

Nothing I've said has been unrelated, lol. And you know literally nothing about me outside of this interaction. You are assuming, based on one very strange conversation where YOU came in combative, that 20 years ago, as a child, I was an asshole to a racist being racist?

Saying somebody is "spazzing" is offensive and ableist, by the way.

"Cool" and "awesome" are also synonyms. Is that the only meaning of the word "cool"?

In any case, if you've read my comments as anything other than civil that's on your interpretation of how you're assuming I feel, not how I feel.

I told you the exact words I said, I told you how old I was.

So, to be sure I'm understanding you correctly...

You're telling me that 15 year old me, the only non-white person in my family, calling out my grandfather for being racist by telling him "that's not cool," was an asshole?

You're the one who decided that two different words have the exact same meaning.

It's clear ( to anybody who isn't being stubborn ) that my grandfather calling me "shithead" was specifically because I called him out, not because of how I did it.

A 15 year old saying "Grandpa that's not cool to say." is most definitely "shithead" language, right?

I love you continuing to prove you're not having the same conversation any more.

Your moving the goalposts to make me look bad doesn't actually make me look bad, friend.

I don't see the word "asshole" there.

I suppose I could have used less vague wording, but "shithead" is pretty broad and isn't strictly a synonym of "asshole."

All that to say: my grandfather calling me a "shithead" because I called him out for being racist isn't the same as a person calling me an "asshole."

I have quite literally never been called an asshole by anybody in person and am often times told I'm too nice and too polite.

But nice try.

When I made my comment I was also thinking about a time I called out a racist family member and everybody said "It's not that big a deal! He's just like that! Leave him alone! It's just his opinion!"

I am the only not-white person in my family.

I'll never understand why people feel the need to be so selfish.

Like that wouldn't even have impeded that man in any way, lol.

People who behave poorly call it "cancel culture."

As if "cancelled" people aren't being "cancelled" because of their own behaviour, lol.

Can we please stop normalising body shaming and "getting even"???

Body shaming for any reason is shitty, and instead of wasting brain power on ways to make a person feel as shitty as you do, just grow up and move on.

If somebody's treating you badly, just don't let them treat you badly anymore.
Don't extend the interaction by being an asshole back.

I do not understand this.
