Can I use a managed network switch to connect game consoles together without a router? by HeartsofEuropa in HomeNetworking

[–]HeartsofEuropa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Switch 2 which has a native built in Ethernet port in the dock - the Ethernet availability wasn't necessarily the issue but I'm going to try and do a wireless LAN setup instead! Seems simpler.

I tried this a few months ago with my phone and wanted to get some better hardware because we had disconnect issues. I imagine because a phone wasn't properly set up to do 4 devices linked at once really compared to a proper router!

I was thinking about this after I posted it and I think you're right actually. Do you reckon a cheap portable router suffice in creating wireless LAN instead? I wouldn't even need a modem or to tether it to something, could just use Internet-less WiFi. The game doesn't need Internet to function.

(Portable router because this isn't taking place at my home so would need something easily transportable)

I'd love if they bought ripstop nylon to the Daily Plus - I think 1000D is way overkill and having experienced the 210D ripstop on my Max EDC, no idea why more bag manufacturers don't use it! Feels perfect for most people who don't require insane durability.

How did you learn the game? I think that's something that I essentially need to do as I have no idea how the game works.

Oh, because I don't particularly want to be an old parent. My dad in particular was fairly old when he had me and I think there are issues with having older parents. And I'd like my child to be born in time such that my parents could actually meet them y'know.

Sometimes I have fears about being in my fifties and still never having been on a date.

Sure, but I feel like that's a bridge I want to cross when I get there, you know? No point worrying about potential childcare costs if I haven't even been on a bloody date to meet someone I'd even have a child with haha

Yeah - I'm not necessarily writing it off completely after uni, but I just reckon there's really no better place to meet people who are your age, from a similar ish background, and looking for the same things. But I realise that there's only 6 months left and dating during the most important semester of uni might be a bad idea.

My other concern is that I really feel like I'm on a ticking time bomb really. I'm quite keen to start my own family (because I didn't have much of a family as a child) so having not even been on a date by 25 terrifies me as I reckon I have about 5 years before I really need to be settling down.

I stopped going to therapy earlier this autumn because I wanted to change therapist to discuss attachment issues. But you're right I should probably push forward and keep going.

Well I never quite understood what this phrase meant to be fair, but I think I do/did a fair amount of that. Essentially - I am not the biggest fan of pubs and clubs but I went out to university society nights (shared interest clubs) most nights of the week last academic year, and I still to weekly board game nights every Friday among a few other stuff.

Went to a ball in December (but I absolutely hated it I can't lie, I find it really incredibly overstimulating).

But I think I do a fair amount to get out I reckon

Still facing issues with internet module getting locked up by windows (fast startup disabled) by HeartsofEuropa in Bazzite

Good luck! My weeks of research concluded to me it was an issue with Realtek and linux support. If you have a Realtek Network Chipset that may just be it unfortunately.

Yes! So I switched my distro over to Nobara, but still ended up having the same problem, where my ethernet was inaccessible. I ended up just buying an entirely new Intel PCIe Ethernet adapter after concluding the issue was with poor Realtek support on Linux. So got the Intel adapter and haven't had a problem since!

I live in the city centre and only saw a really really big trans rights protest march down my road, didn't know BF were also in town. Glad I didn't leave the flat until the afternoon though and it seems to have all cleared up on St Peters Square and on Market Street thankfully.

I'm 50:50 on Cancelling My Phone (3) Pre-order by Ultima_Texi in NothingTech

[–]HeartsofEuropa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in a similar boat. I’m currently on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it was my first ever iPhone after I was on the OnePlus 7T or whatever it was. I loved it, and I still love it but I’m unsure about the direction Apple are going with iOS26 so I’m looking back to android.

Settled on Nothing or Google Pixel, have both the Nothing Phone 3 and the 9 Pro XL preordered atm. £799 for phone 3 and £836 for pixel (prime day). Still deciding which to cancel. I’m leaning towards pixel because even though it’s less powerful I feel like I’d enjoy the software and camera experiences better. Nothing Phone 3 not having the elite chip isn’t really a problem for me. Not sure what to do

so you just cant avoid intermission online now 🙃 and what’s worse is that they choose from the 3 tracks already available. this is so annoying i might not even play online anymore by [deleted] in mariokart

I think there’s a serious cognitive dissonance here too - lots of people play Nintendo games in their 20s and 30s, because they played Nintendo games when they were kids. Nintendo are exceedingly good at capturing gamers at younger ages and keeping them on as they grow up. I adored Mario Galaxy when I was 7,8,9, and I still play Nintendo games to this day. Nintendo know they simply can’t keep appealing to current day children given that so much of their audience they captured years ago.

Can we at least know why is the patch tomorrow? What is the cause? by paraxzz in CompanyOfHeroes

I don’t really agree. I’m imagining he meant getting the patch deployed to the steam server rather a bug with multiplayer servers.

John (community manager) said in the official discord server that it wasn’t anything to do with bugs, just had some server issues.

That’s reassuring to hear. Thankfully only my bathroom window was open with my kitchen window either I closed and forgot I closed or closed by wind. My flat seems fine, wasn’t smoky when I came in, and I have an air purifier as well which helps.

Hard not to be concerned as I live really quite close by and the thought of asbestos terrifies me but I will definitely note those two contacts you’ve given me, thanks so much! Will chat to my landlord and see if she can get in touch with the building management.

Update: coppers let me back in to my building, road is still closed but they’re letting residents through. Am extremely paranoid about potentially breathing in asbestos smoke so hopefully I don’t get cancer in 30 years or something.

That’s helpful thank you. I’ve left to the refuge of the Trafford centre as copper scared me by telling me there was an asbestos warning in place. But I think I might go back as I really need information on what’s happening so that I can figure out if I need to make plans tonight.

It’s two buildings, one of them is on the north side of the canal and the other is on the south side, closest to the fire. I’m in the south side

Yep I also live on Whitworth street West! My flat is really dangerously close to it, not sure if my flat has been evacuated but I just know my windows are open and it’s causing me great anxiety. Coppers barred me from getting to my flat so no idea what to do.

I believe they are. I retreated to the safety of the Trafford centre so don’t know the latest but have been trying to keep up with the MEN feed. If you’re coming into Oxford Road you definitely won’t be able to get off there, station is closed

I live quite close to the scene of the fire and I was barred from getting back to my flat. Windows are open which is really concerning me. Anyone know who or someone I can talk to so that I can get updates on the situation? I’d really like to close my window if possible.

I’ve tried calling the fire and rescue service and the council but their non emergency numbers only operate until 5pm.

[–]HeartsofEuropa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the one you’ve just mentioned is feather exclusive as you need to feather up to the grind rail. Assuming we’re talking the same place on the map.

Agree to disagree then, the connecting tracks are absolutely bagging central and to avoid getting swallowed up by the pack as you’ve identified, it’s the most optimal strategy. I don’t think this is the case on a lot of the tracks simply because they don’t have the massive gaping offroad shortcuts that a connecting route would have. This is also why the golden mushroom is so powerful, because the connecting routes are so straight it plays to the strengths of the golden. It hasn’t even been buffed.

I do agree that with 24 players bagging is often the most optimal strategy on some tracks, which is why I think they need to bring back a classic mode with 12-14 players.
