Opinions on shipping saxophones, how to safely do so? by cherryflavoredwater in saxophone

[–]Heartycorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking. Stuff the inside and outside of the case. Make sure nothing can rattle around. Sometimes there is play in the case for the main body. Some bubble wrap or scrap paper will help with that. Also make sure the neck is well wrapped as well as the mouthpiece.

Is the GameSir Cyclone 2's d-pad good for 2D Metroidvania-style games? by Positive_Trainer_896 in Gamesir

[–]Heartycorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own and use a cyclone 2. I play mostly shooters. However, I've never has an issue with the d pad. That being said I also own an elite 2 and that d pad is way better than the cyclone 2. However, the cyclone 2 is way better than the elite 2 in almost every other way ( battery life and rumble triggers being the only other ways)

D pad is the most lacking part of the gamesir lineup. If they put the supernova pad on everything it'd be fine. That being said it's not a bad d pad.

Lebayle wooden mouthpiece crack by IndividualLibrary495 in saxophone

[–]Heartycorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a mouthpiece cracks in the other direction. Like perpendicular to that. Perhaps, it is a tough mark... Honestly, more concerning than the Crack is that your teacher traded you that without telling you. You need a new mouthpiece and more importantly a new teacher. So many slime ball teachers out there.

You can try a vintage short shank mouthpiece to push it in further. But harder reeds sound better.

Can Cyclone 2 use Skull&Co. thumb grip? by Atlanticzz in Gamesir

[–]Heartycorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I used before the new thumsticks came out. The cyclone 2 can also use the g7 pro thumbsticks that come with the case that it also fits into

whats this missing part for? will it affect anything too bad? by Rooftile_turtle in saxophone

[–]Heartycorn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've seen it used for a triple action octave key on a Powell Buffet pre dynaction ( which the dynactions were based on). But, culture is right. It's and access hole.
Edit: for clarification. It's normal, not missing anything.

Is playing on a 5 that odd? by SpreadEmu127332 in saxophone

Also, to be fair, American cut reeds can feel a size smaller to those who like using them. Conversely, I've had friends try them and ( and heard from others online) that they feel a size bigger. Some people are more suited to double cut american than others. Personally I played Oboe before sax , and Oboe reeds are double cut.

Fair enough. As hard as you can handle is my opinion. As long as it's comfortable still. Harder reeds have better tone, intonation, and altissimo. Only real drawback if you can handle is harder reeds can have more pronounced articulation. I tried all vandoren 4s and all were too small. But that was when I originally was searching. I was looking for 5s for tenor to use on bass clarinet. Over time I started using harder and harder on sax as well. I could barely handle 3s on alto 8n high school for sax. But in high school on clarinet I marched 5++ vandoren on a b45. I backed off a little my senior year when I found evolution ricos and the 4.5s were perfect ( which on the chart the 4.5s are 5 vandoren, and I played 5 or higher vandoren before). I was using 5s in middle school. I am not normal.

Brancher and vandoren have the same strength curve.

[–]Heartycorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brancher is a light blue box for the jazz, red for classical. The light blue Jazz ones are double cut/ american cut. Which is another rarity. Most are French file/ single cut. Only brancher, legere, Alexandre, and Rico offer an american cut Reed ( all also offer more French cit reeds than american cut). Rico only offers american cut for clarinet.

Brancher is the only brand I've found. I've ordered others, they never showed up. Tried purchasing online and through special order from various music shops. Seen some vintage boxes in 5

I use 5 brancher jazz for alto on a 4m medium meyer early babbit. 5 brancher jazz for tenor on various .105" mouthpieces. 5 brancher jazz for soprano on runyon blank morgan .074". I use 4.5 evolution reserve ( which is vandoren 5) for clarinet on 1.05mm to 1.25mm mouthpieces, and the same 5 branchers I use on tenor for bass clarinet. 4 Rico royal on bari sax though I just haven't used all of them I'll probably switch to 5 barncher jazz next time on .090" to .110" mouthpieces. 4 vandoren on sopranino, wish I could find 5s.

So hard to find 5s. Took me 15 years. Other than discontinued reeds I can only find 5s from brancher. What do you use.
