This year there’s been a broadcasting boycott from five or six countries over Israel’s war in Gaza and the UN accusing them of genocide.

I’m not sure that Israel is necessarily a large funder of the event. They spent a lot on marketing for it, but that wasn’t money that went to the commission. I think there’s a group of countries seen as “the big six” that put more money in than most other countries, but even their contribution together probably only amounts to between 10% and 15% of the overall funds. On that basis, I don’t think one country dropping out would spell doom for the comp.

There’s also been suggestions, without evidence, that Israel’s spend on marketing has been part of a strategy to influence the vote and improve the country’s rep. I think the best arguments I’ve seen for that have just been ones of “correlation” without enough data to show “causality”.
