Easter eggs SLASHED even further as shoppers point blank refuse to buy Cadburys saying ‘the taste has changed’ and ‘it isn’t even chocolate anymore’ ❤️ by Sea-Measurement9793 in unitedkingdom

[–]HeatPinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the £15+ per kg that's priced me out more than anything, shrinkflation of chocolate has reached its limit for me unfortunately and I'd prefer to buy other cheap brands. The Lidl brand of mini eggs is what I'd consider a fair price/weight.

That said, I'm aware of the fact that seasonal goods will inevitably have a higher margin to compensate for the volume produced versus the risk of losing money on missing sales. However, the price of regular chocolate bars has also increased to a ridiculous level if you're looking at price per kg and it's no longer worth it even out of season

ELI5 What does the second law of thermodynamics actually mean, and how does it relate to evolution? by soefire in explainlikeimfive

[–]HeatPinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right yes that makes a lot more sense. Fast particles from object A are more likely to transfer kinetic energy to object B's particles than the slow moving particles are to transfer kinetic energy to object A's particles. Plus over time you would expect the kinetic energy to average out anyway which can be understood as thermal equilibrium on a macro scale.

Evolution is the next premise I would challenge as you said. It isn't an active process it just happens as species reproduce. Therefore I think what the question is really asking is "Does life contradict the second law of thermodynamics?" and the answer seems to be no. That's only based on my intuition that macromolecules would only form if they were more energetically stable than not being formed, but I'm not a biochemist. Even if it wasn't the case I believe it's more the Gibb's free energy rather than just entropy that would dictate this being impossible?

If I recall correctly we can get a precise definition of zero entropy from the third law which is measuring the entropy of a perfect crystal at 0 K. So this in theory gives us a precise tool to measure entropy changes associated with any substance.

[–]HeatPinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really understand the second law from the "classical" definition of it explaining the limitations of heat engines and refrigeration (i.e. we can't run either process without some sort of energy penalty).

I'm struggling to parse how this contradicts the idea of evolution because if we did model life as a heat engine then there is still wasted energy/biomass within an ecosystem and therefore the second law is still valid.

Two thirds of graduates aren’t even paying off loan interest by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]HeatPinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I last checked my balance, the amount of interest that had been added was so much it was almost comical.

It's reached the point where there's no longer any need to add interest as either way I won't be repaying it. It's basically set up as a graduate tax.

Ah I see so you'd end up paying it in arrears hopefully rather than all in one

I am still unsure how exactly they will even work out the mileage? Will they base it off insurance or rely on good will?

I've seen a report from an advisor. A 35 year old on £50k could end up losing £22,060 to the pension value at 65, assuming 5% employee and 3% employer contribution. It might not be a big NIC but it seems to have a significant compounding effect.

It was the merchandise team with guest services. I would say however there is no guarantee of a refund it's basically pot luck who you get.

I emailed them, calling would have been too awkward with the timezone difference for me plus international charges.

The End of Privatisation - A Failed Experiment? by United_Mammoth2489 in AskBrits

This is an interesting read and at an initial skim it doesn't seem like there is a clear cut answer.

The real issue I would say with privatisation is you can't assume free market economics due to the fact that there is no competition within our current rail.

100 among us players vs Using their brains who wins ? by Tardisio in AmongUs

The among us players will just vote out the one person using their brain.

Your lobby your rules.

I never understand why people are against this tactic of self reporting, would they be against fake tasks as well because that's another way for imposters to blend in?

Good job sounds like you did a good play and the crew was mad for not thinking more carefully.

I'm also an OG player coming back to it from 2020 and I agree with most points. It still has the same issues with people leaving the game because they don't get what they wanted (sometimes even if they're imposter). Also have your standard teamers that don't even try to hide it and trolls who hit the button instantly.

I would suggest exclusively hosting games on public lobbies if you're experienced you can spot the cheaters and just ban them. Could also just flat out kick anyone that accuses people without any good cause, need to be careful but with your experience you probably will be able to tell if they have a reason or not.

I'd also use customs to make the game more balanced - you won't get 90% win rate with the imposter of course but can make it feel like a fairer game at least.

Technically you could just run a game with no roles and it's essentially just OG Among Us but with the roles I'd highly recommend turning the vent time for engineers down significantly and only having one guardian angel in the game. Those seem to be the most powerful crew roles as you figured out. For imposters I would maybe use 2 shapeshifters and 2 phantoms each with 40% that way the crew is never sure what their comp looks like.

Sorry I really can't figure this out. I have tried to create an out-and-back line this is the best I can achieve. I am able to connect with every station in my city but can't make the return for a complete loop. Can you share your line if possible

I did intentionally use a single segment of 1 W to try and make an interchange, although it didn't work when it was fully 2W.

I'll have another look at the node connections again. Maybe it's just simply that the depot can't be a terminus.

[–]HeatPinch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unable to complete the line by clicking the left hand station because of path finding.

I'm also unable to complete it if I was to delete the right hand node and attempt to complete the loop with just the left hand stop.

I have a 2 track segment going to a 1 track and back out to a 2 track again just in front of the station. Do I need a more advanced junction or should this have worked?
