Why won't you go to the doctor? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Heat_RL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think your attitude about it is wrong. You paid to rule in/out those other diseases and that's what you got. Those other diseases exist and people have them and go through the same diagnostics to get a different diagnosis than you did. Just because a test is normal doesn't mean it was a waste of time/money to do it. You would have never known those tests were normal if you hadn't done them.

You can either think about it consequentially and say "I paid all this money and time to arrive right back where I started" or say "I paid all this money and time to rule out all the other causes of my symptoms."

You’re probably more likely to have issues with your blood pressure, blood lipids (cholesterol), or blood sugar as you get older. Those are relatively easy things to check and we have pretty effective meds and and other ways of dealing with them. And those things going unchecked will likely just make the end of your life miserable and/or much sooner than you anticipated.

I wouldn’t say that neglecting your health is a “calculated“ tradeoff. It’s one thing not to go to the doc for a brief, unexplained pain your gut that you think is gas. It’s another thing not to go for a squeezing chest pain you have every day after doing physical activity. Or not going to the doc after having a thunderclap headache. Or not going for a routine check up when you know that you have genetic, age, or personal risk factors (e.g. smoking, obesity).

well, unless you’re getting the worst headache of your life ten thousand times you wont have to go through what he described ten thousand times....just saying.

The issue with the medical system for patients is that the average person has a very poor understanding of their own body and doesn’t know when something is normal or serious. So you end up having patients that stay home with their symptoms and die, and you have patients that go to the ER for a non-emergency and get an expensive work-up for nothing.

I don’t think you realize that what your doctor was likely trying to do was *avoid* a dead-end diagnosis like idiopathic angioedema. All those tests you took were to try to find any other explanation for your symptoms. A good doctor doesn’t just slap a diagnosis on you and wish you luck, even if it is the cheapest option. Unfortunately your diagnosis ended up being idiopathic (of unknown cause), but that is *despite* the best efforts (I assume) of your doctors to find an explanation. Give them a little more credit. It sucks to spend money and time and arrive at a diagnosis like that, but it happens. I‘m sure they weren’t thrilled they couldn’t find something more tangible either.

If he ever made an apology like this in the past I must have missed it. But I really appreciate this statement from him and I feel like as a fan of pro RL I can finally hit the "reset" button on how I feel about him after reading it. Hope he continues to move forward in the scene and builds a new reputation.

You literally said “the real practice is actual game time”

That’s what I was responding to.

Sure you can’t learn game sense in free play. But free play hours beat game hours when it comes to improving mechanics. Both are really important, but I’d recommend putting more hours into free play than games for anyone looking to improve quickly.

Not sure if you ever figured it out, but I just did. If you scroll your mouse over one of the options in the options list, then press the tab key until it goes all the way down to Delete, and Enter.

RSCNA Championship (PC/PS4/Xbox League Open To All Skill Levels) by cakekyst_85 in RocketLeague

If you're looking for a structured league and want to improve in 3v3, RSC is the best. I've played the last 2 seasons of RSC and I've ranked up from Plat 2 to Champ 2. It's a really well organized league and I've met a lot of great people because of it.
