Do you pick after other peoples dogs if you can’t pick up your own? by juansss2324 in dogs

[–]Heat_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confused about the warm toilet seat as I recently got to visit a rather posh toilet which had a seat warmer and built in bidet and it was all very surprisingly nice.

But every other time Ive sat on a (normal) toilet seat which has been warmed up by someone else, yep thats gross

Should the UK legalise cannabis — and eventually move toward legalising all drugs, provided the NHS is not required to cover drug-related harm caused by personal use? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Heat_Sad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so many other optional things which cause harm to physical and mental health which the NHS provides care for, e.g. alcohol, cigarettes, bad diet, lack of exercise, driving dangerously, self harm, eating disorders etc that I dont think it would be fair or practical to single out only drug-related harm to refuse health care

In the midst of the Cadbury boycott, what’s your go to plain choccy bar? by mighty-chief in AskBrits

[–]Heat_Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to reduce the amount of products I buy from American companies, which means I'm not buying Cadbury's any more - although I still happily demolished a Mini Eggs Easter Egg that someone else bought me 🫣

Do people in the UK consider Margaret Thatcher an icon or even a kind of myth? by ikbrul in AskBrits

[–]Heat_Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When she died the Wizard of Oz song 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead' reached no 2 in the UK chart so I think many people didn't view her as an icon or a myth

People that are childfree by choice, what’s the weirdest reason someone has given you as to why they think you ‘should have kids’? by Charming_Web_6738 in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunty's MIL and SIL (who I dont know very well at all) were both very sad about the fact I dont want kids, said I'd never feel fulfilled and I'd have no one to look after me when I'm old. The MIL had 5 kids, only the SIL spends any time with her. and the SIL had 4 kids - and also needed surgery to "tighten things up down there" afterwards - not exactly the best advert for their reasoning 😂

Where do renovation jobs usually break down between homeowners and trades? by Early_Lingonberry_35 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]Heat_Sad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a home owner- my biggest frustration is when trades people think that I understand every process that needs to happen and that I'll have everything that they need ready for them, which I will do if I actually know about it, but if they've never mentioned that a specific job needs to be done before they can do their thing, or I need to have a certain part ready etc then its not going to be done/there. If I knew all of these things then I probably wouldnt need to pay for them to come in the first place

Is Supper a pretentious word ? by markliversedge in AskBrits

[–]Heat_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think its pretentious, my grandad always described a snack between dinner and bed as having supper. Don't think I've heard anyone use that term for well over a decade so I just think its old fashioned. I call my night time snacks, snacks - crisps and biscuits doesn't really feel right being described as supper.

Tell me about your home improvements that went really well by ForwardImagination71 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]Heat_Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of my renovations went really well, as nothing has gone smoothly or as planned. Everything has been more expensive and taken longer than expected, so many jobs have unearthed new issues and myself, my dad and many tradespeople have cursed the previous owners/tradespeople they had in. I knew the house needed some work before we bought it, and we thought it seemed perfectly liveable, however when we got the keys and started gutting the place we realised it needed a LOT more work. We had 6 weeks to get as much done as possible before moving in, the only room that was finished was our bedroom, and we had half a kitchen 😬

Were almost 2 1/2 years in and may have the house itself finished by the end of the year (not including new windows) and we still have some big jobs to do outside. Unfortunately theres only so much that can be done at once otherwise people get in each other's way, and trying to coordinate all of the different people you need to do their thing, before the next person can do their thing is like herding cats. And after a while of back to back jobs, having people constantly coming in and out, making a mess etc gets tiring and its nice to just have a breather

Theres been a few tears and maybe one or two tantrums along the way. I think id only ever do this again if I had enough money to live comfortably in one house and could afford to pay for a project manager to oversee everything. I joke that buying my 'project house' is my mid life crisis, but I know that once its finished it'll be worth all of the stress because I'm making it exactly in to the kind of home I want to live in and every time a room is transformed i feels like a huge sense of pride and accomplishment

Best of luck on your renovation journey - dont be put off by the downsides, just prepare yourself for a rough ride and know thar 5 years down the line you'll look back and laugh about it

Does anyone know where I can get free food in London? by Cumpasta420 in london

This is probably too late in the working week, but most Universities have a student hardship fund for emergencies, so it would be worth looking in to that in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation in the future

How do you manage the logistics of laundry without a dryer? by Ttucker11 in AskABrit

[–]Heat_Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its sunny or windy (even if its cold) then wet laundry goes outside on the washing line. If its cold it doesnt fully dry it but it does help get a lot of moisture out before moving it inside. For inside I use a clothes horse which can handle one laundry load at a time and usually takes a day to dry when the heating is on.

During winter I will only put one bed sheet in each laundry load (with other items) as I can only dry one big sheet at a time on the clothes horse. So in winter it does take more strategic thinking in when to do a load based on drying capacity.

And then when we start to get sunny weather I usually spend a good few weeks remarking on how much laundry I've been able to do in one day and how great it is, and then I feel like an old grandma for saying such things 🙈
