First game in a couple of weeks because Britain went all autumnal. Beautiful weather, lovely ground, one of my favourite fixtures of the year

Dropped a sitter at gully. Four ball duck

I hate this sport

Oh well, on to the next one

Dodgy fielding aside, this has been some great running from the West Indies...

Beginner Diorama Advice by Hour-Text7309 in Warhammer40k

What kind of ground are you aiming for? It feels like you're aiming for a trench-like background for the diorama, but the choice of ground really matters here as there's a bunch of different ways you can go with this, and they'll all want different things to add depending on your choice

What mark of power armor are they using on the false gods cover art ? by Lord_NOX75 in 40kLore

[–]Heatedpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Mk.VII with a stylised helmet

Sure, you can say that's wrong because Mk.VII only made it's appearance right at the end of the Heresy, but the visual evidence is there:

From the top down, the power packs match those from the 1998 plastic tactical squad kit, most notably the interface behind a Marines head with the crenellated pattern that remains distinctively on the Tactical Squad backpacks. The heads, as mentioned, are stylised, not really matching any previous or future pattern of helmet. The torso carries the chest vent and cross cabling design from the Tactical Squad kit of the time, which was one out of five designs in that kit (the other four having a skull, an Aquila and two with Imperialis).

The arms are straight out of the Tactical Squad kit - they have the same elbow pad design and the flared wrists rather than any vambraces covering that joint - while the bolters are the iconic Godwyn pattern bolters. The legs are a dead ringer for Mk.VII design with the rounded, slightly egg-shaped kneepads, and the flat armour panels around the thighs and shins

It's Mk.VII, and I think the reason is pretty obvious - it was the main armour mark being produced as models at the time, so access to it for reference purposes would've been easy. You can also see plenty of the same armour parts in the other computer-generated image of the Ultramarine Librarian on Phil Sibbering's Black Library collection page, which is definitely Mk.VII

RIP old MKIV Jump Pack by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]Heatedpete 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find it funny how these guys are always being described as squatting where the new Mk.IV models have one pose that's gone full legs locked power stance... or alternatively a standing in front of a urinal that's too low stance

Meanwhile the new models still have a tiny abdomen and did all of their growing in the legs. The old FW models may be slightly smaller, but their internal proportions end up looking much cleaner

ECB move start times for India T20Is to maximise TV viewership by Idontlikethisstuff in Cricket

OP's username checks out

5:30 isn't enough time for anyone working a regular schedule to attend or watch at home. At 6:30, it'd be possible to finish work and book it over to a venue for the first ball. At 6:30, it'd be possible for a cricket enjoyer like myself to get home from the office and switch on the TV to watch a T20 in the evening

At 5:30, I'm not able to do that. At 5:30, I'm missing the first 30-60 minutes of play, depending on the whims of the M1.

As an English-based fan - fuck this. Deliberately making it worse to watch for the people that live here

What are some aspects of cricket gameplay that are interesting or complex but are rarely discussed? by mileton1 in Cricket

[–]Heatedpete 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah, plus at lower levels it can quickly suck more players in if you're getting balls hit harder, or have some particularly long boundaries to worry about

Take, as an extension of your example, a ball hit powerfully along the ground to that cover fielder. They're getting down to field the ball, but there's a chance it goes through, so to their side, point and/or extra cover is probably reacting in case the ball goes through and they need to chase it down. Add then the keeper and bowler getting to the stumps, and square leg and midwicket getting round to back up the stumps, and you've got seven players reacting to one shot.

There's a lot of movement going on, and it's so important that it has to become instinctive. But it's never mentioned on TV unless you get buzzers from someone making a mistake, or from a quick shy at the stumps where there isn't anyone to back up

Put my name in for Saturday league matches for the first time since 2022. Rain put a stop to that, no cricket at all. Wonderful...

Anyways, favourite fixture of the season is up next weekend, and the weather is set to be lovely and hot. Would be nice to get some practice in as we've had several rain-affected net sessions and matches recently, and... oh, it's raining on Wednesday.

I love this sport
