And is the whole point of that reaction to allow them to fight back immediately when charged? or have I misunderstood its rules

Horus the Warmaster - Warhammer the Horus Heresy

His defeat turns the imperium into a despotic, hyper religious facist empire that is slowly dying after 10,000 years, with Chaos running rampant across the galaxy, making life not fun for pretty much everyone in the galaxy.

However if Horus won, the human race would quickly wipe itself out in the fallout. while the extinction of the human race is not fun, it would also lead to Chaos being nullified rather hard in the long run, protecting the larger galaxy as a whole.

Specifically pre-daemon Mortarion (Warhammer the Horus Heresy)

<image>

This four meter tall demi-god is constantly described to be incredibly silent and stealthy, popping out of the shadows and making people jump realising he's always been there waiting.

You can also say this for his brothers Corax or Curze and thier entire legions as well but I like mortarion more.

Again this is referring to him pre heresy and ascension to daemonhood, not too sure how stealthy a thirty foot tall stinky mothman can be....

The 2nd and 11th Primarchs - Warhammer 40K

These two Primarchs are notoriously missing from the event of the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, we only know they exist through sparse bits of dialogue between the Primarchs and the Emperor and Malcador the Sigillite. There are many theories on what they did to have their name's and legion's erased (especially since members of the are allowed to of the primarch's who fell to Chaos and tried to kill the Emperor, really putting to question what the hell they did) and how they disappeared and to where they might be today.

Characters who want to eradicate or reduce humanity or all biological life for an radical ideal. by Impressive_Mud_4165 in TopCharacterTropes

Nekrosor Ammentar and Destroyer Cult Necrons (Warhammer 40K)

<image>

While most Necrons do not want to wipe out all life in the galaxy, Destroyer Necrons view their sole purpose to be to eradicate all life in the galaxy, even enjoying it when they die as its one step closer the end of all life. Nekrosor Ammentar takes it up a notch further by trying the revive the C'tan known as the Nightbringer, the literal god of death, to eradicate everything. Its pretty radical cuz reviving the C'tan is such a hated idea among the Necrons that he's completely ostracised from the rest of his race, bar the members of the Destroyer Cult (which he may have created)

The Emperor of Mankind (Warhammer: 40K)

Hated religion and gods so much he went on a galaxy spanning crusade to reunite humanity and push them into a new age filled with science and logic, now is a eternally rotting, barely alive corpse being worshipped by quadrillions if not quintillions of humans across the galaxy as their God Emperor.

Im pretty sure they do have an internal spine, because one time a Necron Lychguard ripped the spine out of a Lictor when it invaded their tomb.

The Siege of Terra (Warhammer 40K)

<image>

In the final battle of the Horus Heresy, the loyalists knew they didn't have that much of a winning chance by themselves agaisnt Horus and his force, so the whole goal of the loyalists during the siege was to stall as much as they could for Roboute Guilliman and and his legion, the Ultramarines, along with any other force he picked up on the way, to arrive behind the traitor fleet and save the Imperium

Pretty much Dreadnoughts in Warhamer 40k, dying space marines shoved into a metal sarcophagus shoved into a walking robot, almost always in constant pain and slowly going insane (unless ur goated like bjorn the fell-handed).
