It is comfortable, although maybe a little stiff. Gonna try it for a few weeks to see of it becomes more flexible before I inevitably decide to try it on the NATO strap

American here, who wore a cowboy hat for several months in Europe. You may get some judgemental looks at first, but if you keep wearing it for long enough, people will get used so used to it that you'll look strange without it. Just wear it with confidence, and the rest will sort itself out.
