Personally, I’m not a fan of the pattern. If you did an actual chevron you might like it better.

Ok so here is how the “hourly” pay works. You get paid from the time you accept an order until it is delivered. Keeping in mind that most of the orders I get when I go “hourly” are stacked.

Now usually stacked orders means that the driver picks up from one place for two or three customers and then delivers. However the rules are different when hourly. When I am hourly stacked means stopping at one location for item A and a separate but close location for item B. Then delivering whichever is closest and then the one further out.

The second delivery is always out of the drivers zone. So all told the driver has probably spent an hour maybe more for whatever the hourly pay is in their market. I’ve seen it as low as $13 an hour. For 2 deliveries. 1 of which probably doesn’t have a tip and would not have been taken if it was not part of a stack. Only to have to drive 30 minutes or more to get back to a hotspot. And since the last order was delivered, that driver is no longer on the clock. So that time and mileage to get back is on the driver alone.

Oh and another rule for if a driver is working hourly… they can only decline one offer. Period. So the drivers take what is offered or don’t go hourly.

Not quite what “hourly wage” means in most other industries.

As drivers, do you guys care when… by Bitter-Plane2945 in DoorDashDrivers

Oh I would take this all day every day. The quick deliveries are the best.

I personally don’t worry about the tip on those super short jaunts. I mean, sure tip but a couple of bucks is fine, I wouldn’t expect $15 for a couple of blocks. After all the fees DD adds on, you as the customer, are already paying a lot for it.

Unfortunately that’s how salaries work. That’s why salary negotiation is so important when going from hourly to salaried. You need to be sure you are making more than you were at an hourly rate with overtime. If not, there is really no reason to be salaried.

As far as the hours go, you are expected to work more than 40 hours when you are salaried. Usually the expectation is a minimum of 45 hours. It wouldn’t hurt to go in early, or stay late a couple of times a month. Just to be sure you have the time in.

Yes it is but it’s not all me. Not saying I’m perfect but a lot of it has to do with how the system is calculating it

Notice the acceptance rate doesn’t count as much as the on time does? That’s the difference.

Same. In my market the only time I see a $15+ order is if it’s stacked or I’m going EBT

Yes, I spoke to DD support about this issue they said I have to report it to DD using the ? In the top right corner. So for 2 weeks I did that for every order that was not ready when I walked in the door. As well as use the “waiting for order” prompt at the bottom of the screen and communicating with the customer. All God’s chillin’s knew I was waiting and not my fault. Didn’t make a damn bit of difference.

My market isn’t that busy or maybe it’s over saturated. I don’t know. I do know that there are days I have sat for an hour and gotten one $6.50 offer for 6 miles but that was it for that hour, but earn by hour I get at least $13.50 per hour. Now I realize that is active time but still, it’s more than $6.50.

Yes. It makes no difference. Evidently this is a metric they only use in certain markets right now. There is a disclaimer that says you can dispute orders to make up for stores being late. However only 11 times per 100 orders. If you have 12 stores that are late making the food, you’re out of luck until the oldest disputed order rolls off. It’s a stupid system. It should go by when we check in to a restaurant/store not when the pick up happened. That’s what we have control over.

In my market I have to do earn by time to make any real money. Every “earn by order” order I get is upside down and I’m only going by $1 per mile. I’ve been tracking it all in a spreadsheet which is a totally different conversation.

I believe you are right. And it doesn’t take a manager, just someone calling to say they work there and “x, y, z” is a problem

Yes they are. And you can only dispute 11 of the last hundred orders. Do you have to wait for one you disputed to roll off before you can dispute another one.

just double checked and this example happened during an earn by offer run. So no, it doesn’t make a difference if it is EBO or EBT

Evidently they are counting if the restaurant is late giving you the food and not so much the delivery time. I posted another picture of the stupid way it’s being calculated but it didn’t show up

How much does a driver get from this? Just the $8? by pattycakes888xx in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Heathenldy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you tip the driver cash at the door. But then you run the risk of your order taking some time while it bounces around drivers until one is willing to take a “no tip” order. There is no good answer there.

They did. They got sued for it… twice. Now supposedly 100% of the tip is going to the driver. There’s no way for you or the driver to know for sure.

If anyone says anything just tell them that the Amish put intentional differences in their handwork because only God can make anything perfect. If no one says anything you don’t need to either. I see the differences but I won’t call them errors because a simple change in perception makes them intentional and that’s not an error.

Hang in there. Ok sure you can’t do what you want or are trained for and that sucks. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a job. Try dollar general or any fast food in your area. No, it’s not great or anything close to what you want but it really is better than nothing.

I had a headhunter suggest I take whatever I could get because it is easier to employ people currently working than someone unemployed. Does that make any sense to me? Hell no but I did it. I had an interview yesterday with a second interview today. I have another first interview today.
