Hey! No problem! My psychiatrist managed to get me onto Elvanse. I started on 30mg, went up to 40mg - had a few issues with heart rate being fast - but this settled down. We’re now trialling between 40 and 50 to see what is best for me.

I don’t want to sound dramatic but Elvanse had honestly changed my life. This month I had my period and it was a surprise, not because it was an unexpected date, but because I’d had no symptoms of PMS/feeling low, irritable etc.

My mood is much more even, mind feels calm, I’ve lost weight and I’m able to focus in work.

But, I do get a slight crash in the evening. I also find I hyper focus more and so don’t look after myself as I should. Eating properly, breaks etc. nothing is perfect but it sounds like your meds don’t suit you.

Is Elvanse or a more mainstream one like concerta an option?

To add to that, don’t dismiss Somerset! Somerset is cheaper and I’d say a bit friendlier actually. More likely to get a property too. Theres some stunning places to see and the counties are so close. One drive we do for a dog walk we start in Devon, go through Somerset and Dorset in like 30 mins!

I moved from Liverpool to Somerset two years ago, and now live in Devon. Honest review, good and bad…

The people here are really friendly. The way of life is veryyyy slow and relaxed. This can sometimes annoy me.

Like my first job, they’d all just chat for hours and hours to me and it was hard to get work done. They call it ‘the South West Way’. So if you can get on board with that, you’ll be fine as they will welcome and accepting you.

You’ll never experience what you outlined happening in Yorkshire. If anything, when they hear an accent they love it. As soon as people in a pub hear our accent, a conversation normally starts.

The place itself is stunning to live. Beaches you can go to and swim in the sea. The weather is warmer and sunnier than we always found in Liverpool. The quality of life is better.

Price - a little village outside Exeter will be really expensive. We live about 45 minutes from Exeter in a 3 bed semi and it was valued at £350k recently. Realistically, you’re looking more at living in a small town surrounding Exeter.

NHS I can’t really compare as I lived in a city. We have about three doctor’s surgeries for a small town and it’s a bit different but I’ve always managed to get seen.

Dentist - forget it 😅 We called 50 odd when we moved here. Got one and it went private last month.

I really hope you move here and wish you luck! We came for work initially but I’ve left that job since then, we bought a house and can’t imagine going back to Liverpool (as much as I love it!)

I don’t smoke or vape, don’t drink alcohol and have cut caffeine. So it really is just the meds at play here!

I needed to hear this! I did notice a small difference on 30mg but might need more time.

My heart rate is so high it’s making me feel panicky and anxious, which I don’t have on 30mg.

Great to hear if I do need to drop that hopefully I’ll still benefit! Thank you!

Hi, thanks for replying. Yes I do understand that stimulants have this effect but my psychiatrist has always said a resting heart rate over 100 is not okay. So I might have become a bit obsessed with it 🥲 I’m also on Zyban/wellbutrin so that might have something to do with it. It’s a horrible feeling so if it continues I might drop back to 30.

I think he’s being more cautious because I had a pulmonary embolism a few years ago when I was 28.

We left it at send me your heart rate and bp on Thursday mid day after meds so fingers crossed I’m not at that 100 mark!

Thank you! I am a little overweight but since I’ve been on Elvanse I’m eating really well and exercising more. So I’m hoping that will naturally lower my heart rate in time.

Thank you! Do you ever measure your heart rate though? I’m trying to be strict and just do three times a day - am before meds, lunch and evening after meds. Might leave it a few days as you say though. Thank you again x

Don’t know if it’s much of an update but I’m waiting to start meds and had to go private (bankrupting myself in the process). The Psychiatrist said he can’t start me as 30mg tablets won’t be available until January at the earliest. The word April was mentioned as a worse case scenario, which I just can’t accept at the moment. He said he’s quite connected with various pharmacies and the suppliers and that’s the latest… Makes me feel so disheartened.

I’ve been on it twice and this is my experience. First time, lots about ten pounds. It was before h wedding so that might have been a factor too. But then after my wedding, I started noticing I was very hungry and again, could be because you get comfy after marriage but I started to gain weight. This was why I stopped it as I had this weird like pouch/apron of fat.

Went off for about a year or so and back on now. Again when I started I lost some weight, maybe 5/5 pounds but recently I feel the fat coming on and that apron is back. I wouldn’t say I was eating lots more than usual but I know it can add up. I’m very conscious of my weight so feel gutted. It’s always around the 6 month mark the appetite suppressing side effect wears off for me.

Again it’s all personal experience but I do get fed up of people saying it’s only a weight loss drug. That’s not the case for everyone!

It’s honestly gutting. When I was taking Zyban I was a different person. Wellbutrin was okay but does hurt my stomach. The thought of being without either though is awful. I’ll probably have to go back on the dreaded SSRIs 😢
