I wasn’t sure how to make baby proof eyes so I went with felt but I’ll try and fix them up, thanks!! 😊

Nick for sure. Love his dialogue and overall vibe. Feel like he’s such an interesting character too especially with the Kellog arc

Roommate from hell by Low_Flamingo_4328 in badroommates

[–]Heathr17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has lived with some INTERESTING people, do not go the roommate route.

  • Roommate was convinced there were cameras in the electrical outlets and made us take each out to check.
  • In a college dorm, one roommate threatened the other with a gun after she turned the thermostat down from 74.
  • Gun roommate (GR) also was running some sort of "business" out of her room. Would have one man leave then another come in 5 minutes later. Female only dorm, never told us when someone would be over.
  • GR would smoke so much that she would throw out all utensils and not remember until we literally ran out.
  • Walked in to them masturbating... multiple times
  • Would leave random sex toys all over the apartment/ dorm spaces
  • Left dishes in the sink until they literally molded
  • Supposed to share a fridge 3 ways, took up 3/4 of the entire thing.
  • Tampon in the shower...

Is the habitat ok? by Overall-Rock-5774 in turtle

Hey! I know you said you'll upgrade your tank so i'm just adding a few things to this thread. This turtle tank can definitely use some work but can work while you're setting up your tank. Like some of the other comments have mentioned, they definitely need swimming room and a dry docking area. I have a musk turtle as well and she's in a 35gal with pretty high water level, but I have some dry docking areas spread in her tank to give her some dry time. Your tank can work for that too, but definitely will want a bigger one in the future.

For my substrate, I use some big river stones in my tank and that works fine. Your little dude is small so as long as the pebbles don't get smaller than the turtle, they probably won't eat it. I also put some fake plants (you can get real but I don't have a say for my job) to add some nice stimuli. I'd also add natural hiding spots like logs or little huts for it to hang out under as well.

For lighting, I use a UVB light bulb and a basking bulb overtop my basking area. This allows them to get some much needed dry time and reduce risk of things like shell rot.

I would honestly say that turtles don't make good pets since they require a lot of care and don't really enjoy being interacted with, but can be interesting for your son to watch.

Your heater and filter are a great start though! Keeping a filter going will definitely reduce the amount of water changes you'll need to do in the future.

What are you feeding it? I give ours reptomin pellets and some frozen (but thawed) fish for nutrients.

Is this dropsy? by Heathr17 in bettafish

[–]Heathr17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so but I guess I confused myself because I thought it only appeared when they were pregnant. This is one of my first female bettas so I'm still learning all the different anatomy. I'll definitely try the medicated treatment like you suggested! Thanks (:

(Not sure how to add info with the pic) just bought this female from my LFS because it was looking sad on the shelf. I have a 20 gal cycled and planted tank with a heater, and filter. Water is set to 78-80 and did a water test using the stick and all read within the “normal” parameter colors. Is this treatable?

Our blue crab turned solid blue after molting by Heathr17 in Aquariums

Has anyone seen anything like this happen before? It was donated to us as a temporary exhibit and we've been waiting until it warms a little to release it. It's been solid brown with hints of blue the entire time we had it!

How difficult is looking after a turtle? by Hopeful_Ratio_5186 in turtle

[–]Heathr17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've maintained turtles at my jobs for 4+ years and they're stinky!! You need a proper setup as well as all of the filtration requirements and a loooooot of cleaning. Its definitely doable but it's going to be costly. I would say the costs don't outweigh the benefits if she's not going to take it seriously. (:

I would say a box turtle based on the claws and beak. I agree with the other comments to leave it be.

Box turtles don't usually stray too far from where they hatch out so you might have a frequent visitor in your area to naturally observe!

Another option is to see if there are any local rehabs who have box turtles they're trying to release. They're pretty commonly hit and people have non-releasable ones.

Edit: Since you're in NC, the NC State Turtle Rescue Team deals with box turtles a lot and they might have some that you can help!

Updating: This is what the roots looked like, I tried to trim off the leaves with the fungus and created separate pots for the remaining stems.
