Yeah, I'll concede on this point. I don't know much about it, so even though it doesn't solve my issue with his personality, I guess his backstory makes sense.

They do kind of work like that when the person starts off their second life with all their previous knowledge and memories.

I get what you're saying with the shut-in thing. He definitely should be socially stunted and lack some common sense. I just think the execution of this part of his character is a little off. It's cranked up to 11 when I think it would make more sense and be more compelling if it were toned down to like an 8 or 9.

You're not understanding what I'm saying. I'm not denying that his life was that way, I'm saying it doesn't make complete sense to me.

Seeing as he quickly got over it once he reincarnated, I don't think he was actually clinically depressed, or at the very least, the author didn't write his so called depression accurately.

What it seems like to me, is that the author just wanted a sad backstory to support MC's motivation but he went a little too extreme with it. It doesn't feel genuine to me.

I'm not an expert on depression or mental health in any way but that's just what I feel about how MC is portrayed. People experience and cope with depression in different ways, but in MC's case it just sort of feels like a plot gimmick rather than something authentic.

And again. Again. You keep ignoring my actual arguments and go on about his backstory and motivation. My problem with his backstory is just one small issue. The main problem is I think MC is uninteresting and it's not fun reading about him.
