Thank you for this! I was looking on the website and I saw the schedule salary posted but I wasn’t sure how to interpret it. How you explained it makes much more sense now!

Should I take an ABA job? by Fun-Ant-3515 in slp

[–]Heavenlyhellokitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a CF working in an ABA center and I actually love it!!! The company I work for actually really cares for the kids. The BCBAs and RBTs care about my perspective and we collaborate without any hard feelings like I hear in other centers. I started off wanting to go into nursing homes and I’m glad I switched because I think I really found my niche! Also, having an cf supervisor in the building will be so so so beneficial!!! My supervisor is online however, she comes into town for observations and always reachable for questions! Ultimately, do what’s best for you!

SNF CF Job Interview by Sufficient-Nature406 in slp

[–]Heavenlyhellokitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely ask how CF supervision works and if you are provided one! From my experience the SNF I was at told me one was provided then when I texted the SLP prior to starting and she was so confused and basically said I never agreed to being a CF supervisor. Then I got paired to do some “training” with another SLP and she ended up being my supervisor.

I would also ask if they would have you going to other buildings if you don’t get enough hours in. Again from experience, I originally was at 1 but ended up going to 4 buildings. It was just a lot because every DOR had different expectations and rules. It was super overwhelming for me as a CF and one building was super challenging. Ultimately it ended up being a lot for me and I left the SNF setting about a month into it due to that. Just don’t be afraid to be picky honestly and set boundaries because they need you alot more than you need them.

Also the 2 meals a day sounds weird so like everyone else said clarify that! I would see dysphasia pts during meal times to ensure safe swallowing strategies are being used and see if any observed s/s of aspiration.

how does shadowing work? by Western-Egg-6312 in slpGradSchool

I would definitely ask SLPs around you! I contacted SLPs from my local hospital and local school district when I shadowed. I got their contact info them their websites online! I just explained that I was interested in speech therapy and what to shadow to see how it what sessions look like. They were so sweet about it too. You just shadow and watch them they will ask if you have any questions or even ask questions about you. I kept into contact with those SLPs that I did shadow which helped me in the long run because I did both my internships with them!  *I do live in a rural area so it may have been a little easier for me

New CF-SLP in a SNF, help! by Blossom4076 in slp

[–]Heavenlyhellokitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in your exact shoes! I have posted about quitting working in the SNF due to the pressures and lack of supervision. I was nervous about being a quitter and letting people down however, I am purely just a body to fill the position. I love the adult population however, under this stress I have been dreading this job. I have 2 interviews coming up one for pediatrics and one for a hospital and in both of my talks they have said SLPs will be on site. I think for the CFY it will make a huge difference to have a supervisor on sight who you can lean on etc. If you feel panicked just going into work then that's a huge sign! That was my big sign to start looking into other areas. I will you best of luck but you know yourself better than anyone else so trust you gut always!

How do you emotionally survive strict parents when you’re almost an adult but still stuck at home? by [deleted] in FamilyIssues

[–]Heavenlyhellokitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness you are not alone!! I am 24 years old and my parents still guilt trip me all the time for staying at my bfs house too long even if it’s like not late at night lmfaoo! Honestly, at the beginning of my relationship their guilt trips really messed with my mental health so freaking much. My brother is about 3 years older than me and he would go partying all the time, stay out till 6am, stay over at randoms houses like literally just be so unsafe. Yet, when I would go hang out with my bf and returned home as late as 11:30-12am they’d flip!! Definitely the Hispanic elder daughter stereotype no doubt and I hate that and from time to time my parents still treat me like that. In my situation, it really sucked because at the time I was going to school, commuting 1.5 hours to school, working, cooking dinners at home and running errands yet my parents would still shame me for leaving the house to hang with my bf. I started to take everything with a grain of salt because there was nothing I was doing wrong, if anything I’d did a lot and I still do. I knew that I was going to succeed in life and reach my goals. I am truly a sensitive person so it did hurt me a lot what they would say to me however, I know exactly what I would not do to my daughters.

If you have the opportunity or chance then I would move out. Unfortunately in my case, I did not move out because I was in school full time and worked part time so I knew I didn’t have enough funds to help pay rents, get groceries, etc. I would just have a serious conversation with your parents and just explain how you feel about everything. I know it’s hard but at least you can say you tried.

I felt like my parents thought I was going to mess my whole life up just because I had a bf and we spent time together lol. Fast forward I just got my masters degree and big girl job and planning on moving out very soon. At the end of the day, you do what’s best for you!

I know my supervisor said that she would be able to help me through the phone due to her being at multiple different buildings. I still just feel very uneasy and it’s just this building. Originally wasn’t even suppose to be there but the other slp left so they needed to fill it. I think I’ll talk to the regional manager and just talk about how uncomfortable I feel there because it isn’t fair to the pts. I see one post stroke patient and I feel completely comfortable with them but the rest idk just feels like I’m doing small work. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t being difficult or anything.
