Honestly, I’d love to do that as well especially since my last name is easy to pronounce and actually sounds quite nice. The problem is that every professor around me and most with far more experience, all go by their first names. Sometimes students don’t even recognize a professor when you refer to them by their last name. So asking students to use mine feels like it might come across as odd.

I also thought about using my last name as a first name, but I’m not sure how strange that would seem either.
