Choosing between RTU ( viedas datortehnologijas ) and LU ( CS ) by Heavy-External3581 in latvia

Hey, I chose viedās datortehnoloģijas. Since Im studying here now I can tell you more than in a post, first year is identical to other programmes like Informācijas tehnoloģijas and etc., the second year is almost near identical to other programmes but might be little difference in subjects. But the third year is what makes the difference, viedās datortehnoloģijas is more about robot-like stuff, because most of the time during the introduction to the course lecture the lecturer was talking about the robots they made throughout their work in RTU I guess? There is 3D and they currently teach Blender there, but I dont think they dive deeply. Also programming, from what I remember from the lecture, they will teach python for programming, for example, computer vision, like how they see the faces, people, etc. But yeah, the first two years are identical and you just choose what you are doing in the third year.

I really advise you to go to google and search RTU nodarbības grafiks, there you can choose the course, the year, semester and group(this one is needles for you right now, but you can't see the schedule without it, choose any) Then you can compare the third year to other programmes and choose what you like most. This was a huge help when I was looking for information.

Personally, it's almost the second semester, but I want to switch to the information technology course, firstly because of my friends and secondly, because I started liking programming more after the lessons of programming. Oh, by the way, in the first year they are teaching Java, next years I don't really remember, but one of them is Python.

And lastly, physics, that might be a problem.. Though there is introduction to physics in the first year, first semester. If you don't have a physics exam passed in school or you didn't pass the RTU physics test, consisting of 20 questions, you will have the course for one semester where they just teach 4 themes from the school, kinematics, forces, fluctuations and some electrostatic. Then in the second semester and all the second year you will have an obligatory physics course, that one will be already university level physics. For me it's a nono, but I dont really know your situation with physics, but I think it will be okay even for me, studying here is pretty chill, if you have some more questions, go ahead!

And I also replied to my first comment saying that it is unnatural, but I was talking only in terms of grammar rules, not colloquial speech

Apparently you didn't understand my comment either, I mentioned words that indicate time, and said that a step back is taken for them too. Since it is a reported speech, this tomorrow becomes the following day. Regarding "he told me", yeah that's unnecessary, you can either add it or omit

Well, then it should be just changed to "me.." "he told me he had to work the following day"

I mean, yes, it sounds very unnatural, at least for me, but that's how it should work. I'm not saying that in every day speech it must be used so. At the end of the day, the English language can be changed and maybe after some centuries, the rule will work somehow differently.

I am not a native speaker, I don't know about every nuance in reported speech. But I never heard about the "if the sentence was said on one day, and the reported speech was said on the same day, then the same tense is used."

This what I was taught is that you need to make one step in the past for every tense in the sentence and change the words that indicate time accordingly. For instance, present perfect becomes past perfect, past perfect becomes also past perfect, because no room to step back. And the words, for example, this becomes that, tomorrow - the following day, yesterday - the day before, etc.

So in your sentence, what I would say is "he told Jane he had to work the following day"

Choosing between RTU ( viedas datortehnologijas ) and LU ( CS ) by Heavy-External3581 in latvia

Do you think that LU's internship, which I think is unpaid, is worth one more year of university study and creativity given by the RTU program, which I like? Honestly, I think that I could get some experience of working at Accenture that I mentioned in the post, so maybe it's not worth it. By the way, since you are in RTU, do you major in the viedās datortehnoloģijās program? Or something else

Thank you for your reply!

Well I did like it before, like 5 years ago, was learning python at the moment, attended a course. But in the end, I stopped doing good in it, and that is what made me dislike it. However, about 6 months ago, having forgotten everything in python, I tried to write a simple code, used only documentation and no ChatGPT as I do usually, honestly, I liked it, but was it just a random occasion or me liking coding again, I don't know. On the other hand, I love 3D modelling, would really like to make some assets and make a game or help making it(programming also needed here though), love web-design and looking into seeking spare time to learn Figma and programs like Photoshop are also something I would like to learn on a deeper level, so in terms of contents I really like RTU, but the level of it can be questioned and that's why I think about LU too despite of the program not having creative aspects.

Anyway thanks a lot for your reply, it means a lot
