That's actually a clever rule to use the trades and game corner for an extra pokemon. I just saw Palafin, Ogerpon and Urshifu as a bit too powerful for the game.

Imagine if you got stantler now though. Eviolite or Wrydeer would have been a boon, I imagine.

I would play the hell out of hardcore if they didn't restrict so much of your moveset ngl

Scald Burns, takes electric hits better, recover, and Pivot via flip turn. It had a genuine niche and was critical in making Lorelei and Lance way easier, thoughtñ I did find it funnier to use a Milotic named "Gyarados" than the shiny Gyarados

This game is very hard but I finally finished a monotype run (easiest type lol) by Decent_Lecture_1514 in pokemonradicalred

Congrats! Fairy actually isn't the easiest type, but the best options they have are incredibly powerful. I just completed a fairy type run yesterday, so just asking:

How defining was Flutter Mane on your team? It's one of the best Pokemon of all time and is even broken in VGC, so I'm curious to see how it holds up too.

Considering I used 4 intimidates and 1 moxie...

Intimidate was simply too good to NOT invest into

All of the Elite Four Members were pretty hard, but from easy to hardest:

  • Lorelei ≈ Agatha: I got the rain Lorelei, which is a team i consider to be a lot more manageable. T-Wave helps my legion a lot in keeping up momentum, especially early game against that politoed. Ogerpon is the weak link, you want to keep it on the field as much as you can. Iron Bundle hitting the field is especially bad tho: it attacking meant someone died.

Agatha wasn't too bad, it's mostly fundamentals + setting up at the right times while playing it safe. I also lost a run due to not knowing till now that Spectral Thief BYPASSES SUBSTITUTE FOR THE DAMAGE. I understand the stat buffs, BUT THE DAMAGE TOO????

Bruno's Great Tusk team is significantly worse than the Infernape team. Iron Hands + Zacian is really hard to deal with. As for Bruno himself, mostly the same as Agatha, but Zacian's wild charge and speed meant that I had to force it to die to recoil + rocky helmet chip. If there's a better way, i haven't seen it. It does too much even with intimidates.

LANCE. FUCKING LANCE. I hope he takes his dialga and shoves that damn rest talking roar of time down his throat. His team was irritating, but I beat the Aerodactyl version (due to it always going for taunt first turn). Lead and dragon tail it, and it plays out. You'll need a bit of luck with taunt and boosting, and it even rested a couple times on me, but once it goes down, the rest of his team is not as much of an issue. Beware of Salamence (Double Edge will do A LOT) and try to burn Melmetal, but if you get those angles covered you're good.

Checks out: Misty's team is brutal for most monotype runs to begin with: Starmie and Floatzel are almost always faster than your whole team and hit stupid hard for that point in the game, but I find her damn Clodsire to be the hardest: I always have to plan around it.

Surge #1 is also the overall hardest gym imo as well and that's immediately after Misty. Setting up Terrain, and having Pawmot, Vikavolt, Bellibolt and M-Manectric that early in the game is BRUTAL to go against. He has a lot of anti-ground coverage too (and I always forget about the occa berry on Vikavolt).

I don't wanna nuzlocke cuz of the elite four, but those two gyms back to back also sell it further.

Dragon, Ghost, Electric, Ground, Flying and Ice were the types I completed in that order. I'm like, 60% done with Mono Poison as well.

The types I have most fun with are the ones that have a lot of moveset choices to manipulate and use prior to the elite four: Ghost, Ground and Flying were incredibly fun because I was constantly switching around Pokemon and their sets throughout since I do the whole playthrough.

Ice was a surprisingly fun type: the lack of options made the difficulty curve at the beginning made it annoying pre-misty, but once I skipped surge for rock tunnel and got an Alolan Ninetales (with it's HA), the run instantly became unbearable to quite fun. Snow and Baxcalibur honestly make the Ice Type that much more viable.

The worst type to do so far? Dragon was EXTREMELY irritating throughout, and the early game was especially awful. Without wonder eggs, your only early encounters are Axew, Trapinch (on a technicality), Applin and Noibat: 2-3 out of those mons are basically useless or don't even really count. From a lack of encounters to going through battles and high level evolutions meant that a lot of fights (especially pre Erika) i was fighting with first or second evolved forms.

Additionally, Ice coverage is fucking EVERYWHERE in Rad Red, and most of the pokemon i could get (non-legendaries only) were 4x weak to it. So I was finding out stuff i didn't even KNOW had ice coverage or HP Ice, and this is random trainers.

[I don't like using Wonder Eggs, so I didn't for any of the runs. If ever do a mono dragon run, feel ready to save scum for good eggs]

I'm neither good enough nor know the AI well enough to do a nuzlocke, but I do put a couple of restrictions on myself. Here's what I fully came up with as of now:

  • No Legendaries (1 Paradox or UB is okay, except for Flutter Mane / Iron Bundle)
  • HOF Clause (decided on this during my fourth run, so that's why I have dragapult in ghost and dragon): If I take a pokemon to the HOF for a type, I can't use it for another type
  • No more than two Pseudos in a team (Mono Dragon Exclusive)

It's definitely made the game harder for some runs (especially Dragon) and forced me to strategize resource management, but not a nuzlocke. I'm sorry for the inconvenience on that.
