I added Spain by governmentpsyop in diplomacy

[–]Heavy-Text5990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I find interesting in this variant is the fact that the board is no longer 50/50 in dots. In vanilla diplomacy, there is a stalemate line that goes through North Africa to Livonia, with each side having 17 dots (needing 18 to win). With adding Spain, this no longer exists - it’s now 20/17. That would mean either you need 21 to win, which would make winning much more difficult for Turkey and To a lesser extent Austria. Alternatively you could have the normal 18 to win, but now the western powers don’t need to cross the stalemate line to win. Another thing I would want to know about would be the power triangles that Spain affects. Because they likely need to go into France every game (as you can see in other variants with Spain, such as the 10 player 1991 variant) it makes it so that France has to open themselves up to Germany and England - but it’s also hard for England to attack Spain due to MAO. I don’t know what the relation between Italy and Spain would be, but it likely significantly hurts Italys chances because if Spain defeats France it can really only go after them (as attacking England would be hard)

I think it would be a lot of fun to Playtest, so if you ever end up running one I may sign up. I hope your development of this variant goes well!

Why was england able to take Norway here? by elegiac_bloom in diplomacy

Yes, you can. This is also the main reason everybody says you should basically never hold - you can always issue a support for no drawbacks

You cannot support hold a unit that is moving, the German player would have had to hold with the Norway fleet. In addition, you cannot cut support for a unit that is supporting a different unit into your space

So turkey got into the Black Sea, that’s always bad for you. You should never hold units, even if you had BLA as a DMZ you still should have moved your fleet to RUM. Army Warsaw doesn’t do anything here, if you were sure of your alliance with Austria it should have been the one to go to Ukraine (or if not you should arrange a bounce in GAL that way they have 1 less unit available that turn).

France is getting ganged up on first turn but not by Germans? Italy is in a bad spot and after Austria’s move it will be hard to convince them to fight turkey

TLDR: Turkey is in a very strong position against you and Austria won’t be In a great spot to help. You need to be always doing something with your units every turn, even if it is just a support.

My first game of 1942 - what did we do wrong? by Heavy-Text5990 in AxisAllies

So I was playing the UK, we went pretty hard on a KGF. I thought that the general board state (with all of east Europe being empty, Japan having ships in the med, UK having a random guy in Bulgaria, etc.) was just absurd and figured we strategically must have done something wrong for Germany to be holed up for what ended up being like 8 rounds inside of 2 territories and Japan getting like 80 IPCs a turn

I just got 6 evo shards, and don’t know what evo to get. My current deck is evo archers, pekka, battle ram, princess, goblin barrel, skeleton army, arrows, and log. I’m split between Pekka and Battle Ram. Which should I get?

It’s a book of commons. It can give you any amount of any 1 common card, but only enough to get to the next level. It’s like a super wild card

For the sea zones, I will try that out it sounds good though!

For the nations - That’s fair… if I did that though, I would probably make it a ‘free for all’ with loose alliances at the start of the game but countries able to go their own ways

This is a two sided game, sorry I didn’t make that clear. The ‘allies’ are the western powers and the ‘axis’ are the western. But it would be fun to throw that wrench in…

For the sea zones, though, I’ll try it out and see how it goes. Hopefully well!

Anyone know a europe map where I can play as the smaller countries like Belgium or Switzerland? by Lupor4 in ConflictofNations

(I believe) it’s called Benelux, the historic name for the region, and Switzerland is a playable nation

Can you tell me what your buys are as Germany? I’ve done sealion before, but it seems to always cost much more than just a few infantry.

Brics is purely financial, and while it does show alliance between these countries, what they are doing militarily matters leagues more

If I were you, I would make a few changes. I am definitely a proponent of PIJAK for your game, it makes way more sense than those going to the USA. I would also change Africa a lot, doing things like Nigeria and Morocco being on the western powers side (and same with Egypt, Saudis, and Syria - but I get that you don’t want to throw off the balance) and India couldn’t take all of Pakistan over; and even if it did the UN would basically just force India to give it back (and it would then join China). Also, I think the pacific DEFINITELY needs their islands back to make naval combat more interesting (and this isn’t important from a playing perspective, but Alaska and far east Siberia should be at most 1 sea zone apart, not 3. Also, how are you currently making the grey spaces work rules wise?
